Beginning in vibrant Cologne, we’ll sail along the Rhine to Remagen in the Ahr Valley, which we will explore with an included excursion. Then on to Braubach, where we’ll find a town filled with wonderful half-timbered buildings and overlooked by Marksburg Castle.

Our river cruise will continue along this mighty river to reach Boppard, known as the ‘Pearl of the Rhine’, to see its stunning setting and picturesque sights. After our time here, we’ll cruise to Koblenz, situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers.

It will then be time to enjoy the highlight of our cruise - the Wine and Fireworks Festival in Cochem. Venture along the town's narrow alleyways and charming streets, admiring historical architecture and Cochem's beautiful setting. Be sure to watch the fantastic parade through the town centre in the afternoon, and visit the festival's two stages to enjoy musical entertainment. In the evening, watch as the night sky is lit with a wonderful fireworks display, illuminating the Imperial Castle overlooking the town.

We’ll sail along the Moselle to reach Rudesheim, known for its bustling Drosselgasse street, before arriving in Mainz the next day. Here, we’ll take an included transfer to charming Heidelberg, before our river cruise comes to an end.

    Ahr Valley
    Enchanting Ahr Valley
Today we explore this beautiful region, known locally as the ‘wildest daughter of the Rhine’. The origins of this name are quite obvious when you look at the spectacular scenery, as the Ahr River meanders its way through the picturesque valleys, with breath-taking rock formations, idyllic castles, ruins and terraced vineyards rolling down the hillsides.

We visit the charming town of Ahrweiler, known as the ‘metropolis of red wine’. The town is surrounded by medieval town walls, and many of the buildings are original, giving it a truly medieval atmosphere. We continue our journey back to the ship, passing through pretty little villages along the way.

    Heidelberg
    Heidelberg Transfer

Join us in beautiful Heidelberg as we enjoy an included transfer into this splendid city during our holiday. Heidelberg is overlooked by its majestic castle - explore at leisure to discover the city's many sights and attractions.

    OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS

    Boppard
    Discover Boppard

Known as the ‘Pearl of the Rhine’ Boppard was founded by the Romans; under the Merovingian dynasty it became a royal residence and during the Middle Ages the town was a considerable centre of commerce and shipping. The town is located at the top of the largest loop of the Rhine and is part of the Middle Rhine Valley that belongs to the Heritage of UNESCO since 2002. With over 2,000 years of cultural history Boppard has seen many travellers come and go, well-meaning or ill-meaning, that have all left their mark on the town, from castles, churches, monasteries, gardens and parks.

Boppard can be best seen on our guided walking tour, we see the Romanesque church of St. Severus with its two towers built in the 12th /13th centuries, we also see the Electoral castle, over the years the castle has been home to the local customs office, the town gendarmerie, police station, courthouse, prison and military hospital, today it is home to the town’s museum. As we continue to the old town we pass the many romantic squares and small lanes lined with beautiful stately homes.

    Wine glasses
    Evening Wine Tasting and Siegfried’s

Join us this evening as we board the Little Tourist Train to our first port of call, the world-famous Siegfried's Musik Kabinett just off the famous Drosselgasse.

This Museum is home to one of the world’s biggest collections of self-playing musical instruments, where visitors can admire over 350 exhibits. Our tour concludes with a visit to Adolf's wine cellar to taste his famous local wines.

Here, we learn about the different wines of this region, the history of winegrowing in the region, the way the wines are produced and their particularities. Following this we get to taste the local wines, which are served with a pretzel to neutralize the taste of the different wines. A great way to spend an evening in Rudesheim!

    Cochem
    Explore Cochem
Join us on our guided walking tour as we explore the pretty little Moselle town of Cochem. The old quarter is dominated by the late-Gothic imperial castle and is dotted with medieval squares and lovingly restored timber-framed houses – architectural gems typical of the Moselle region.

We see the market square, the baroque town hall, the Martinsbrunnen (a feature of the town's historical water supply), St. Martin's Church, the former Capuchin monastery (now an arts centre) and sections of the old town walls, including the town gates.
    Koblenz
    Historical Koblenz

Get to know one of the oldest towns in Germany on our guided walking tour around the historical Old Town. The charming and romantic streets between the St. Castor’s Basilica and 'Liebfrauenkirche' (Church of Our Beloved Lady) represent today’s main tourist attraction of Koblenz.

Of course, the sightseeing tour would not be complete without a visit to the Monument of Emperor Wilhelm I at 'Deutsches Eck' (German Corner) and the town’s landmark, the 'Schangel' Fountain in the courtyard of the present Town Hall.
    Heidelberg
    Majestic Heidelberg and Castle

Join us as we head to the beautiful city of Heidelberg. Considered as one of the many jewels in Germany’s crown, this city is one of the most popular destinations in this country and is situated on the banks of the Neckar River. Heidelberg is home to the oldest university in Germany, dating back to 1386 and has over 28,000 students. The city's main attraction is its stunning castle, perched on the hillside overlooking the city.

Our comprehensive panoramic tour takes us to the Altstadt (historical city centre) and Hauptstrasse (main street), approximately one mile in length, which is reputedly the longest pedestrian shopping street in Germany. We will also explore the Philosophenweg, which provides wonderful views across the oldest part of the city, before we enjoy a leisurely drive along the river Neckar.

We then head to the castle. Nestled 300 feet above the city, Heidelberg Castle is a combination of several buildings surrounding an inner courtyard, put together with a haphazard look. Each building highlights a different period of German architecture.

The castle has a history almost as old as the city itself, with the first parts of the castle being constructed around 1300. From the Great Terrace and gardens, enjoy amazing views of Heidelberg, the Neckar River and the Neckar valley, and on a clear day Mannheim is even visible on the horizon.

    Marksburg Castle
    Majestic Marksburg

Marksburg Castle rises high above the right bank of the Rhine River, overlooking the town of Braubach, and is the only castle in the Middle Rhine to have escaped destruction or ruin. The castle dates back to 1117 and has been inhabited for over 700 years. Through the centuries, there have been many additions to the castle - mainly in the 17th and 18th-century - but still it maintains its medieval character.

Join us as we make our way through the drawbridge gate and up the path to the courtyard; here we see the Great Battery, which houses the cannons which once protected the castle and the town of Braubach.

We continue through the kitchens, dining area, bedrooms and the chapel, which is dedicated to Saint Mark, and from which the castle gets its name. The chapel is home to some exquisitely-preserved medieval paintings.

We then make our way to the torture room, which is located in the castle stables - despite its brief tenure as a prison, there is no record of torture ever being used in the castle.
