  • Take a trip to charming Bad Ischl
  • Explore Hallstatt, one of the Salzkammergut’s most picturesque villages
  • Admire stunning Lake Mondsee and Lake Wolfgang

Celebrate in style this Christmas, with a wonderful holiday to the Austrian Lake District. Known as the Salzkammergut, this picturesque region is famous for its magnificent scenery. We’ll get to soak up this splendid setting during our holiday, as well as having a merry time at our hotel - the Attergauhof. We can also explore further with our two included excursions.
Join us as we make our way to Bad Ischl, situated in the centre of the Salzkammergut, where we can take in this spa town’s excellent atmosphere. Made famous after the Habsburg Princess Sophie holidayed in the town, Bad Ischl will be a treat to explore. After our time here, we’ll travel to nearby Hallstatt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its pastel-coloured houses and lakeside location.

Our next excursion will allow us the opportunity to discover two of the Salzkammergut’s tranquil lakes, beginning with Lake Mondsee. This crescent-shaped lake is one of the region’s largest, as well as being one of the warmest. Onwards to Lake Wolfgang, known for its crystal-clear water and amazing surrounding landscape.

Included Excursions

Full Day: Bad Ischl and Hallstatt

Make the most of a visit to Bad Ischl. This lovely little spa town is a fantastic example of Austrian life, as you’ll notice a particularly laid back and calm atmosphere here.

During your visit, take a stroll through the charming streets, enjoy some traditional Austrian lunch from one of the small cafes or pastry shops, or visit one or two of the main sights. These include the Kongresshaus, the parish church, and the Kaiservilla, which was once the summer house of the Emperor and Empress of Austria – Franz Joseph I and Elisabeth.

We’ll then return to the Salzkammergut region to visit the beautiful village of Hallstatt, which is close to Lake Hallstatt and has attractive Austrian architecture. The views across the lake are also wonderful, and there are many lakeside strolls you’ll be able to enjoy.

Half Day: Lakes Mondsee and Wolfgang

We take in two beautiful lakes today, as we make our way to Lakes Mondsee and Wolfgang. The pretty lakeside town of Mondsee has an attractive marketplace lined with pastel-coloured baroque houses, a promenade where you can stroll along the tranquil lake waters and the church featured in the’ Sound of Music’ during the wedding scene. Meanwhile, Lake Wolfgang is known for its magnificent landscape and clear waters.
