Enjoy Germany’s iconic scenery as we explore the serene landscapes of the beautiful Black Forest, as well as taking in the stunning riverscapes along the majestic Rhine and magical Moselle valleys.
Day One: UK to Belgium
Join our Grand Tourer coach as we cross to Calais and on to Belgium for an overnight stay.
Day Two: Belgium to Boppard
Our journey continues as we travel into Germany and take the historic cog railway up Dragons Rock, where we visit the beautiful castle. We continue to the welcoming four-star Bellevue Rheinhotel in Boppard, where we stay for three nights. (B,D)
Day Three: Moselle Valley
Take in the scenery today as we call at the picturebook town of Cochem, set on the Moselle and overlooked by the majestic Reichsburg Castle. We follow the river down to pretty Zell, before heading back to Boppard. (B,D)
Day Four: Boppard
Relax and explore Boppard at your leisure. Set on the Middle Rhine Valley, this part of the river’s route is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To see more of the river, why not join our optional Rhine cruise to Oberwesel. This evening, our hotel also hosts a wine tasting session in the cellar, before dinner. (B,D)
Day Five: Boppard to Oberwolfach
Leaving Boppard, we head southwards, calling at the beautiful city of Heidelberg. Enjoy time to see the sights, including the castle, churches and old town, before we make our way to the Hotel, where we stay for three nights. (B,D)
Day Six: Black Forest
Heading into the heart of the Black Forest, relax and enjoy the passing scenery. We’ll call at lovely Furtwangen, home to the German Clock Museum, as well as sparkling Titisee, which has the largest natural lake in the region. (B,D)
Day Seven: Oberwolfach
Relax in our resort and comfortable hotel today, or you may choose to join our optional excursion to Lake Constance. (B,D)
Day Eight: Oberwolfach to France
Leaving Germany behind, we call at Freiburg, before continuing northwards for an overnight stay in France. (B,D)
Day Nine: France to UK
We travel to Calais and make our onward journey home. (B)

En Route: Drachenfels Railway to Drachenburg Castle
The cog railway leading up to the top of Dragon's Rock, or Drachenfels, was originally put into operation in summer 1883 and, on its way to the top, manages an elevation of around 220 metres. Dragon's Rock is the landmark of the Siebenbirge, or 'Seven Hills', and the rocks here were supposedly inhabited by a dragon, who was thought to have been slain by the German hero, Siegfried.
We’ll take a trip on the Dragon’s Rock Railway, stopping midway to enjoy a guided tour of Drechenburg castle, before you can continue to the top to enjoy the views below.
En Route: Freiburg
Enjoy a en route visit to the historical town of Freiburg, known as the gateway to the southern Black Forest and home to the magnificent ‘Muster’, a dark red sandstone Cathedral, as well as a beautifully preserved Old Town.
En Route: Heidelberg
Located on the River Neckar, the beautiful city of Heidelberg is overlooked by its majestic castle. The city is a delight to explore, with its charming narrow streets and quaint houses, as well as bustling pedestrianised streets. Cross the old bridge or ‘Alte Brucke’ to look back across to the picture-postcard castle and riverscapes below. Explore this amazing city at leisure to discover its many sights and attractions, as well as enjoying some shopping for fantastic souvenirs, and admire the beautiful scenery with an en route visit.
Evening Wine Tasting in Hotel Cellar
During our stay at the Bellevue Rheinhotel in Boppard, enjoy a fantastic wine tasting experience in the hotel’s wine cellar. The hotel included a wine shop and attached winery until the late-seventies. Today, this wine cellar is the perfect environment in which to sample some of the region’s finest wines. By candlelight, find out for yourself just why Germany’s wine is so distinctive.
Full Day: Black Forest, calling at Triberg and Titisee
We enjoy a full day included tour through the scenic Black Forest. Over 200km long and 50km wide the Black Forest is not only one of the most varied but also one of the biggest and best known regions of Germany. Enjoy this leisurely trip to some of the most famous areas of natural wonder including the charming towns of Triberg and Titisee.
Full Day: Moselle Valley, Zell and Cochem
Take in the seasonal landscapes as we explore the beautiful Moselle Valley, a corner of Germany famous for its picture-book scenery. We visit charming Cochem, a lovely little town overlooked by an iconic late-Gothic imperial castle, and dotted with medieval squares and lovingly restored timber-framed houses. We go on to call at pretty Zell, where you may also join an optional wine tour.
Full Day: Lake Constance and Mainau
Lake Constance, also known as the Bodensee, enjoys a mild climate and plentiful sunshine. The hillsides that slope to the water’s edge are covered with vineyards and orchards, the shores of the lake being shared by Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Our day on the lake includes a visit to the medieval town of Konstanz, once the most important city on the lake due to its strategic position. We also experience the island of Mainau, an exotic, scented floral isle renowned for its rich soil.
Heidelberg City Tour and Castle
Considered as one of the finest jewels in Germany’s crown, this city is one of the the country's most popular destinations. Located on the banks of the Neckar River, Heidelberg is home to the oldest university in Germany, which dates back to 1386 and has over 28,000 students.
Admire Heidelberg’s historical city centre and the Hauptstrasse (main street), approximately one mile in length, and is reputedly the longest pedestrian shopping street in Germany. Discover the city’s fantastic sights, such as the Old Town, featuring beautiful German architecture. It will then be time to take in Heidelberg’s main attraction - its stunning castle, perched on the hillside overlooking the city.
The castle has a history almost as old as the city itself, with the first parts of the castle being constructed around 1300. From the Great Terrace and gardens, there is an amazing view of Heidelberg, the Neckar River and the Neckar valley, and on a clear day Mannheim is even visible on the horizon.
Rhine Valley Cruise
Relax with a cruise along the beautiful Rhine, Germany’s longest river. Admire stunning scenery as we sail along this famous river, taking in its riverside vineyards and majestic landscapes.
We will travel from Boppard, known as the ‘Pearl of the Rhine’, to Oberwesel, nicknamed the ‘City of Towers’. During our journey, we’ll pass one of the Rhine’s most beautiful landmarks - the Lorelei Rock.
Wine Tasting in Asti
Asti, located in the Piedmont region of Italy, is known for producing some of the finest of Italy’s red wines, along with a number of popular white wines.
Explore the spectacular scenery, with fields filled with vineyards, hidden gems and quaint villages found throughout this amazing destination. We’ll journey through the heart of Asti in order to discover this famous winemaking region.
Nestling between the Langhe and Monferrato region, the Cantina Sociale di Canelli association has been producing these classic wines of Piedmont since 1933, bringing together over 200 vine-growers.
This wide assortment of products includes the most prestigious wines of the Asti area. There’s a unique system used here, with red wines being produced from the grapes of old vines. This region also produces light, fresh and fruity whites, as well as the traditional sweet and dry white wine known as the Asti Spumanti.
We’ll explore the winery of the Cantina, which stretches across two thousand square metres of land. During our time here, we’ll learn about the various processes that take place from the planting of grapes to the finished product, and will get to enjoy the flavours of the different varieties when we enjoy a few samples of these delicious wines.
