Day One: UK to Bad Peterstal-Griesbach
Fly to Stuttgart, where you will be met and transferred to Bad Peterstal, where we stay at the Hotel Hirsch for five nights. (D)
Days Two to Five Bad Peterstal-Griesbach
Over the next two days we will enjoy the beautiful scenery and quaint villages of the Black Forest, with two included excursions. We travel to the city of Freiburg; known as ‘the jewel of the Black Forest’ it is famous for its cathedral and historic city gates. We then continue to Titisee, the largest lake in the Black Forest which has a number of trails around it which will allow you to see the best of the area and the pretty hills that surround it.
We also visit the town of Triberg, which is known for the waterfalls that are in and around the town. The town has also become quite famous for the Black Forest cuckoo clocks that are made in Triberg. We then continue to the town of Rottweil, the oldest city in the region. Rottweil has a walled old town set high above a valley with traditional German town houses in its centre.
We stay in Bad Petersal-Griesbach in fabulous Black Forest countryside with a number of incredible walking trails easily accessible in the area. (B,D)
Full Day: Triberg And Rottweil
Enjoy the wonderful scenery around Germany’s popular Black Forest region, as we call at the pretty town of Triberg, famous as the home of the country’s highest waterfalls, a centre of traditional woodcarving as well as the Black Forest Museum. You may also pick up here some of the local produce, such as the cured hams or kirsch liquer. We go on to visit charming, medieval Rottweil, which has some interesting architecture, including Roman ruins and Gothic churches.
Full Day: Freiburg and Titisee
We travel to the old town of Freiburg, known as the gateway to the southern Black Forest and home to the magnificent 'Muster', a dark red sandstone Cathedral, as well as a beautifully preserved Old Town. We continue our journey as we venture onto Titisee with its natural drinking water reservoir and nature reserve with its picturesque waterfront promenade. Titisee is also famous for making the world renowned Hones cuckoo clocks.
Full Day: Strasbourg
Strasbourg is the ultimate European city. It has flavours of both France and Germany, and sits right on the border of the two countries. Its picturesque 'La Petite France' neighbourhood looks like something straight out of a fairy-tale book. This riverfront neighbourhood is famous for its timbered buildings accented by colourful flower boxes.
We explore the city at leisure, taking in sights such as Strasbourg Cathedral, the famous astrological clock, and La Petite France.
