    We’ll be based at the excellent Hotel Lindenhof, which is run by the Dury family and makes for an wonderfully welcoming place to stay. The hotel occupies a central position on the village square and offers every comfort for our stay in the Black Forest. 

    As we make our way to our hotel, we’ll take in Donaueschingen’s carnival. Soak up the festive atmosphere and admire the eclectic outfits of the carnival-goers! The next day, we’ll have free time in Braunlingen to see the Shrove Monday procession this afternoon. Travelling through the centre of Braunlingen, this exciting carnival parade is an important event in the town’s calendar. This evening there will be live music to enjoy at our hotel. 

    A highlight of our holiday will be our time in Villingen the next day, where we get to immerse ourselves in one of Germany’s oldest carnivals. The Villingen Carnival first began in 1584 and is an annual event, with those taking part donning colourful masks and costumes. The carnival procession is one of the best parts of the event, and we’ll get to watch as countless interesting figures parade by. 

    Our next included excursion will see us making our way to Freiburg and Titisee-Neustadt, two charming Black Forest towns surrounded by stunning scenery. We’ll enjoy free time to explore, and can take in the fantastic attractions in these towns, such as Freiburg’s beautiful Old Town and Titisee-Neustadt’s excellent views over the north shore of Lake Titisee. 

    As we begin our journey home, we’ll spend a short while in the beautiful city of Strasbourg, famous for its wonderful architecture and city’s charming ‘Petite-France’ area.

    Braunlingen Shrove Monday Procession
    The Shrove Monday Procession in Braunlingen is always an exciting event, with the whole town taking part. The colourful procession makes its way through the town centre and always boasts a festive atmosphere. We’ll watch the procession, so we can immerse ourselves in this superb event.

    We’ll take in the amazing Donaueschingen Carnival during our holiday, and will get to observe the wonderful costumes and masks the carnival-goers adorn themselves with during this exciting procession. Soak up the excellent atmosphere here and be sure to remember to bring your camera!

    We pay an en route visit to the historical town of Strasbourg, where you can explore the beautiful old town with its narrow streets, as well as discovering the quaint timber-framed houses of ‘Petite France’, famous pink cathedral, and Gutenberg Square.

    Full Day: Freiburg and Titisee

    We travel to the old town of Freiburg, known as the gateway to the southern Black Forest and home to the magnificent 'Muster', a dark red sandstone Cathedral, as well as a beautifully preserved Old Town. We continue our journey as we venture onto Titisee with its natural drinking water reservoir and nature reserve with its picturesque waterfront promenade. Titisee is also famous for making the world renowned Hones cuckoo clocks.

    Villingen Carnival Procession
    One of the Black Forest’s oldest carnivals, Villingen’s carnival dates from 1584 and is steeped in history and tradition. We’ll get to discover the interesting cultural traditions of this event during our excursion, as well as watching the wonderful procession make its way through the town centre. With all of the colourful costumes, detailed masks and exciting atmosphere, the Villingen Carnival makes for a fantastic experience!

    Full Day: Lake Constance
    Formed by the Rhine Glacier during the ice age, Lake Constance is known locally as Bodensee, a stunning freshwater lake. Lake Constance is situated between the Three Countries, Germany, Switzerland and Austria and we enjoy the seasonal scenery on our excursion today.
