Discover the iconic Black Forest with us, famous for its pretty towns and villages, delicious gateaux, amazing scenery and excellent atmosphere. The setting for countless fairytales, we’ll spend time exploring this fantastic destination, with trips to Strasbourg, Gengenbach and Baden Baden to look forward to, as well as en route trips to Metz and Colmar.
Beginning our holiday, we’ll make our way from our overnight stop onwards to Oberharmersbach through Metz, where we’ll have some time to explore.

Our first included excursion will take us to the charming towns of Strasbourg and Gengenbach. In Strasbourg, the capital of the Alsace region, we’ll have chance to absorb the festive atmosphere and browse the popular market stalls, as well as seeing the sights, such as the cathedral, the city’s Old Town and Strasbourg’s medieval bridges. Meanwhile, in the traditional town of Gengenbach, we can admire the beautiful architecture and surrounding Black Forest scenery.

Next, we’ll visit Baden Baden, situated in the foothills of the Black Forest and on the banks of the Oos River. There are lots of stunning sights here, from the city’s Old Castle, to its Old Town filled with historical buildings along quaint cobblestone streets.

Day One - UK to France
We’ll make our way from the UK to France, via Calais, and will spend the night at a comfortable hotel. 

Day Two - France to Oberharmersbach
In the morning, we’ll travel via Metz to continue our journey into Oberharmersbach, where we’ll stay at the Hotel Baren for the next four nights. (B,D)

Days Three to Five - Oberharmersbach
We’ll spend the next three days in Oberharmersbach, exploring Strasbourg, Gengenbach and Baden Baden. (B,D) 

Day Six - Oberharmersbach to France
It will be time to say goodbye to Oberharmersbach today, as we begin our return journey and travel through Colmar to reach our overnight hotel in France. (B,D)

Day Seven - France to UK
We’ll return to the UK today, travelling via Calais and then continuing home. (B)

Hotel Baren

The traditional, family run Bären is situated in the village centre of Oberharmersbach, surrounded by picture postcard Black Forest scenery. The hotel provides a welcoming atmosphere and traditional accommodation in the typical style of the Black Forest.

Full Day: Baden Baden

Join us as we make our way to Baden Baden, famous for its picturesque setting and quaint narrow streets with cobblestones and brightly coloured shops and houses. Discover the traditional Christmas stalls set in the beautiful old town.


Full Day: Strasbourg and Gengenbach

We visit the historical town of Strasbourg, with its quaint timber framed houses and famous pink cathedral. With time to explore this beautiful city at leisure, we’re sure to fall in love with the festive atmosphere, decorative Christmas stalls and elegant architecture here. It will then be time to make our way to the pretty town of Gengenbach, located on the western edge of the Black Forest and known for its medieval town centre.


Via: Colmar

Colmar, located on the Alsatian Wine Route, boasts a beautifully preserved Old Town with many architectural delights, and we’ll spend some time here on our way to our final overnight hotel, for chance to browse the festive stalls.


Via: Metz

We’ll travel through pretty Metz, a lovely French town, set at the joining of the Seille and Moselle rivers during our journey. This charming town is the perfect place to enjoy a short stop to explore the surrounding area and attractions, such as the opulent Saint-Stephen Cathedral, the Opera House, and Saint-Jacques square.


Optional Excursions

Full Day: Freiburg and Triberg

Take in the seasonal landscapes as we explore the Black Forest, a truly picture-book corner of Germany. We’ll call at Freiburg, with a wealth of culture and history as well as inviting traditional taverns. We also call at Triberg, a town home to the Black Forest Museum and an extensive variety of the famous local cuckoo clocks.
