    The Basel Carnival is considered one of the best carnivals in Europe, and it’s easy to see why. Expect fantastical costumes, entertaining parades, humorous performances and vibrant street decorations! We’ll begin our holiday with a trip into Basel, so we can explore the city and watch the floats and parades of the carnival. The next day, we’ll visit the carnival again and will spend time in the evening watching the street performers and soaking up the celebratory atmosphere here.

    The next day, we’ll take a trip to nearby Strasbourg, known for its historical city centre - which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll explore at leisure to see the many sights here. After this, our next excursion will take us on an exciting wine route through Obernai, Gertwiller, Ribeauville and Riquewihr, and we’ll also enjoy a tour and wine tasting experience at Becker Wines in Zellenberg.

    With so much to see and do during our break, we’re sure to have a wonderful time!

    Basel Carnival Evening
    We’ll make our way back to Basel in the evening to take in more of the carnival, and to soak up the energetic atmosphere here. With costumed participants roaming the streets, entertaining the crowds with local songs and music. Admire the excellent decorations and costumes this evening!

    Full Day: Basel Carnival
    Basel Carnival, locally known as Basel Fasnacht, is held over three days every February and is considered to be one of Europe’s best festivals. Over 20,000 people take part in the festival each year, and we’ll be able to watch the amazing performances and parades while we’re in Basel. With pipe music and drummers marching throughout Basel, we’re sure to have a fantastic time today!
    Strasbourg
    Full Day: Strasbourg

    Strasbourg is the ultimate European city. It has flavours of both France and Germany, and sits right on the border of the two countries. Its picturesque 'La Petite France' neighbourhood looks like something straight out of a fairy-tale book. This riverfront neighbourhood is famous for its timbered buildings accented by colourful flower boxes.

    We explore the city at leisure, taking in sights such as Strasbourg Cathedral, the famous astrological clock, and La Petite France. 

     

    Black Forest
    Full Day: Triberg and Black Forest Tour

    Explore Germany’s varying scenery as we travel through the beautiful Black Forest, an ancient mountain range, famous for its legends and the black fir trees that cover the landscapes. We’ll discover the beautiful city of Freiburg, Triberg famous for its extensive variety of cuckoo clocks, as well as lovely Lake Titisee. This is a really lovely corner of Germany, that we are sure you will enjoy.

    Obernai
    Half Day: Wine Route and Wine Tasting
    We’ll have a wonderful excursion along the Alsace wine route today. Sit back and relax as we travel through stunning scenery, with famous vineyards on all sides. We’ll make our way through Obernai, Gertwiller, Ribeauville and Riquewihr, before stopping in Zellenberg to visit Becker Wines estate. Here, we’ll enjoy a guided tour of the estate to find out more about the grapes grown and wines made here, before sampling some of this exquisite wine for ourselves.

    Colmar
    Half Day: Colmar
    Join us as we make our way to Colmar, located on the famous Alsace Wine Route and known for its stunning old town. This beautifully preserved historical centre is filled with amazing architectural landmarks, some of which we’ll be able to take in during our time here. Discover sights such as the Maison Pfister house, which was featured in the animated film Howls Moving Castle, and the stunning St Martin's Church.
