Day One: UK to Ostend
We depart the UK and continue to Calais before travelling to Ostend in time for dinner (D)
Days Two to Four: Ostend
A chance to relax at leisure in Belgium’s biggest and brightest seaside resort. Stroll along the promenade, golden sands harbour and pretty gardens, discover the numerous shops or simply relax at one of the many bars and restaurants. We include excursions to the medieval town of Bruges and to Veurne to visit their market.(B,L,D)
Day Five: Ostend to UK
We depart Ostend and travel back to Calais before arriving in the UK and continuing our journey home (B)
Royal Astrid Hotel
The Royal Astrid Hotel in Ostend provides comfortable accommodation within easy reach of the shops, bars, harbour and parks. The cosy bar with fireplace is the perfect place to unwind with a drink in the evening.
Full Day: Bruges
Enjoy the exquisitely preserved medieval city of Bruges during this excursion. Charming Bruges is known for its winding cobbled streets, pretty gabled houses and attractive tree-lined canals, each crossed by a humpback bridge.
Half Day: Veurne Market And Coastal Drive
The Belgian city of Veurne is known for its large market square, which is surrounded by beautiful Renaissance-style buildings, one of which - the belfry - is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is of course a regular open-air market held at the square each week, and we’ll get the chance to visit during our holiday. We’ll be able to shop for souvenirs and mementoes of our break, as well as enjoying the busy atmosphere here.
After our time at the Veurne Market, we’ll take a pleasant scenic coastal drive in order to soak up the wonderful views.
Bruges Guided Walking Tour
Bruges is a fascinating city, and we’ll be able to enjoy a guided walking tour of the city while we’re there. This will provide us with more information about the city, as well as showing us some of the most famous attractions and landmarks.
Half Day: Sluis
Visit the quaint Dutch town of Sluis on an optional excursion. Just over the border in the Netherlands Sluis has an attractive Gothic belfry and stone mill.
Ypres And Last Post
We’ll make our way to Ypres to observe the moving Last Post ceremony, which takes place every night to commemorate those who lost their lives in Ypres during the First World War. Held at the iconic Menin Gate, the ceremony will be a chance to pay our respects to our fallen heroes. While we’re in Ypres, we’ll also be able to explore this attractive city.
