Come with us as we discover the delights of Germany’s Christmas markets during this exciting Christmas holiday. We’ll take in the festivities found at some of Germany’s best markets, and will be able to enjoy the atmosphere, local delicacies and stalls selling all kinds of gifts while we’re there.
From enjoying a glass of mulled wine or hot chocolate, to admiring the attractive Christmas decorations, there will be lots to do during this break. We’ll begin our holiday by travelling to Bad Aachen, a popular town in Germany, and will discover the Christmas market here. Take in the town’s colourful Christmas lights and superb stalls selling all manner of festive items.

Next, we’ll take a trip to the famous Christmas markets to be found in Cologne, and will also spend some time exploring this beautiful German city.

From here, we’ll make a short stop at the Valkenburg Christmas markets, known for being one of the most unusual out there - it’s held in the majestic Velvet Caves. This underground cave system runs beneath the ruins of Valkenburg Castle and makes a unique setting.

Day One - UK to Bad Aachen
We start our journey as we travel to Bad Aachen, making our way via Calais and then arriving at the Hotel Buschhausen, which will be our base for three nights.

Day Two - Aachen
Enjoy an included transfer to Aachen, for chance to explore the city and browse the popular Christmas Market. (B,D)

Day Three - Cologne
We head to Cologne for a full day excursion today, enjoying all this city has to offer and exploring the festive stalls. (B,D)

Day Four - Bad Aachen to France
Sadly, it is time to say goodbye to Bad Aachen and the Hotel Buschhausen, as we make our way to northern France. On the way, we’ll visit the unique underground Valkenburg Christmas Market, before continuing our journey to our overnight hotel. (B,D)

Day Five - France to UK
In the morning, we’ll travel back to the UK via Calais and will then return home. (B)

En Route: Valkenburg Christmas Market

When en route, we call at the quaint Dutch town of Valkenburg, where the wonderful underground Christmas Market is the largest and oldest of its kind in Europe. Enjoy this unique setting as we soak up the seasonal atmosphere and browse the stands.


Full Day: Cologne And Bonn Markets

The city of Cologne has seven markets, with the largest ones located at the cathedral, Alter Markt, Neumarkt and Rudolfplatz. It is truly magical to explore the colourful decorated stalls and seasonal treats, with the backdrop of the imposing cathedral and other historic buildings, such as the medieval gate house. After time to explore, we go on to visit the historic city of Bonn, for more opportunity to enjoy some festive foods and shopping.


Half Day: Aachen Christmas Market

Every year four weeks before Christmas the square and streets around Aachen town hall and cathedral are transformed into a paradise of lights and colours, festive sounds and seductive smells. A strong atmosphere of Christmas dominates one of Germany's largest and most beautiful festive markets.
