Days Two to Three: Sittingbourne
We spend two days in Sittingbourne during which time we will go on two included excursions. We visit the ancient cathedral city of Canterbury before continuing to the Spitfire an Hurricane museum at Manston where we will see these amazing planes and learn about their role in World War II.
We also visit the Kent Battle of Britain museum which has the world’s largest collection of memorabilia from the battle. Later we call at Dover Castle, which has been an important coastal defence for almost 1000 years; here we can delve into the secret wartime tunnels which were a hospital and bunker during World War II.
We will also have plenty of time in Sittingbourne to discover the town and the surrounding Kent countryside. The Kent Downs are just outside of town and are easily accessible by bus, or if you fancy a trip to the seaside the resorts of Margate and Ramsgate are a short train journey along the coast. (B,D)
Time to say goodbye today; we depart after breakfast and make our way to the interchange before returning home. (B)
