Wigan-based director on a journey to run 16 races in 2016 to raise money for charity close to her heart

Posted on: 8th April 2016

Caroline Brown, commercial director at Wigan-based tour operator Shearings Holidays is embarking on an epic journey to run 16 races in 2016 to raise money for Abta Lifeline, a charitable trust, set-up to help people in the travel industry when they need it the most.

Caroline said: “Having never run before, in 2014 I decided to run the Wigan 10k to raise money for ABTA Lifeline after the charity helped a colleague who suffered a stroke at work. Having witnessed the fantastic work that they do within the travel industry, I decided to set myself a bigger, personal challenge to run 16 races and over 1000 miles in 2016 including my first marathon (London), The Great North Run and a host of other half marathons including Lisbon, Manchester, Southport, Reading and Liverpool”

“I have spent many wet, dark winter miles in training, but I know it’s all in a good cause and nothing compared to the life changing, heart breaking experiences that many of the ABTA Lifeline beneficiaries have to cope with.” “I’ve had great support from the Wigan Warriors Endurance Group along the way, so am very thankful to them.”

Caroline has already completed six of her 16 races. She is training six days a week and has recently ran the Reading half-marathon. Brown will face her biggest challenge yet when she runs the London Marathon on Sunday 24th April 2016.
