In a prime location, right in the centre of the curving esplanade, just a pleasant walk from the shops and harbour, stands Oban's Great Western; a hotel proud of offering space and comfort, as well as magnificent views of the bay (remember to look out for those memorable sunsets!). Ideal for a relaxing holiday, the activity on the bay can simply be watched from the welcoming lounge and cocktail bar, while it's also an ideal touring centre. With Glencoe, serene lochs and the Western Isles on the doorstep, there's a myriad of sightseeing opportunities. And with coast and country walks, angling, sailing, diving, bird-watching and a whole host of other leisure pursuits at hand, you should never be at a loss for something to do.
This hotel has a car park with a limited amount of priority spaces, these can be reserved at £5.00 per day. There is a public car park nearby, charges apply.

Our most luxurious room option, most of our Premier Rooms come with a four poster bed as well as a spacious refitted bathroom that accommodates both bath and a separate shower. These bedrooms will normally offer extras such as comfortable seating area, a 32 inch digital flat screen television, hair dryer as well as a hospitality tray.
Our Superior Rooms are more spacious and tastefully refurbished, they offer luxurious beds, a 26 inch digital flat screen television. The spacious bathrooms have been refitted with shower over bath. These rooms also come with the facilities to make yourself a hot drink.
Our Standard Rooms are charming and have everything you would expect. The rooms have digital televisions, tea and coffee making facilities as well as an en-suite bathroom.

It was mine and my husband’s 30th wedding anniversary on the 19th the day after we arrived and Linda made my day and got me a lovely room with a four poster bed and a lovely view. We had a lovely holiday and we won’t forget our 30th wedding anniversary thanks to lovely Linda.

Just back from Tinsel and Turkey weekend - enjoyed. As stated in the other reviews here the hotel and staff are absolutely fine BUT and it's a big BUT - charging £5 per day for car parking is a lot on top of the headline price and having taken at least 6 Shearing's self drive breaks in the last year, makes us much more likely to look at alternatives. We're not scrooges but feel this car parking "extra" is a bit of a rip off.

We had a lovely weekend the staff were excellent could not do enough to please .the entertainment was very good and the rooms were clean and comfortable we had room 117 and the views were great .Many thanks to you all for a lovely weekend we travelled with Shearing and they were first class.

We had a great weekend staff and management were fantastic gave us our room for longer on the day we were leaving as my brother in law needed oxygen as our was not until 6 pm value for money entertainment very good going back next year at Easter.

I have just had a eight day holiday at this hotel to find ALL staff and management could not do enough for you and as for Linda who is an amazing lady, going the extra mile to make sure your stay is a success. I celebrated my birthday whilst there and I have NEVER had a birthday like it. Thanks to Linda, Ohm and all of the kitchen staff. I will certainly be going back again and already I have been recommending Oban a beautiful place and of course The Great Western Hotel.

My wife and I had a five day holiday at this hotel and the service was just outstanding. The staff and management could not do enough for you, the meals were fantastic and plenty to choose from and the hotel rooms were spotless. There was entertainment very night and it was very good my wife and I hope to return to this hotel next year for our holiday. All in all, excellent value for money we feel this hotel should be upgraded to at least four star.

Before we even arrived, the staff were so helpful, Darren , the manager and Linda were great. My mum was with me and they made sure her room was perfect for her and she didn’t have to walk too far. The hotel, was lovely, our rooms were brilliant, amazing scenery, comfortable beds, just a really good stay. I will certainly be back again, and I will be recommending the hotel to my friends and family.

Just come back from here, had a great time. We were lucky with the weather but would still have enjoyed it. Our driver was great, the day trip and scenery were amazing, hotel older but clean and everything we needed, food good, entertainment good, staff pleasant and friendly guests. All in all would recommend. Oban is a lovely place as well, will definitely go back.

My wife, daughter and I stayed for four nights in this wonderful hotel. Really enjoyed our stay and would like to thank the staff. The whole area around Oban is stunning and we enjoyed such a delightful walk around the harbour one night just before the sun set. Would recommend (and have done) this to friends and family. Hope to return soon.

We might be remembered as the young couple LOL, my partner, son (7 weeks old) and I booked into a guest house originally and we got treated bad to cut it short if my baby cried he would be causing a problem, refused to stay and asked great western if they had room and the staff was so helpful and kind. was 9pm and really needed bed for my son (home 2hr away) we got the big room on the 3rd floor with 5 windows overlooking water was fab, lots of space for my sons cot, we had a great time so thanks again
