Food and Drink

Svíčková Na Smetaně

Considered one of the best sauce-based dishes in the Czech Republic, Svíčková Na Smetaně is a must-try. After slow cooking a sirloin steak, this recipe adds a range of vegetables and spices along with double cream, boiled to make a splendid sauce, which is enjoyed with dumplings on the side.

Pierogi

Pierogi are delicious dumplings, filled with a variety of different foods – both savoury and sweet. A common and popular variation uses potato and cheese, but sweet fruits and berries can also be added. This flexible dish is the most iconic meal in Poland!

Goulash

Both Austria and Hungary have a different take on the famous dish Goulash, with the Hungarian Goulash, one of the national dishes of the country, being more of a soup, and the Austrian, a thick gravy. Both use meat and vegetables seasoned with paprika and other spices.

Malakoff-Schokolade-Torte

The Malakoff torte, a classic dish in Vienna, is a stunning dessert using sponge fingers and a crème filling to achieve a soft and light cake. The dish requires no baking, making it effortless to make and effortlessly delicious!

Prague

Prague Highlights

Charles Bridge

One of the most recognisable bridges in Europe, Charles Bridge crosses the beautiful Vltava River. Lined with impressive Baroque statues which have been inspiring poets and novelists since its creation, the bridge is steeped in history and is a true architectural treasure.

Old Town

The perfect place to soak up the charming atmosphere of Prague, the Old Town is home to many of the city’s finest historic monuments. A particular highlight is its Astronomical Clock – when the clock strikes the hour, the procession of the Twelve Apostles sets in motion.

Prague Castle

The largest castle complex in the world, Prague Castle dominates the skyline and houses some of the city’s popular sights, including St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George's Basilica and the Golden Lane. Dating back to the 9th century, the castle has been a seat of power for kings, emperors, and presidents alike.

Budapest

Budapest Highlights

Buda Castle

Towering over the capital atop Castle Hill, Buda Castle boasts rich history and is a melting pot of architectural styles. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the castle’s interior houses the Hungarian National Gallery and the Budapest History Museum, whilst a bronze equestrian statue of Prince Eugene of Savoy can be found in front of the castle.

Hungarian Parliament

Nestled on the banks of the Danube, the Hungarian Parliament Building is one of the largest parliament buildings in the world. King Steven’s crown jewels are on display within, and the exterior features neo-Gothic spires, gargoyles, and a dome that peaks at 97 metres – it’s no surprise the building attracts nearly 70,000 visitors each year.

St. Stephen’s Basilica

Budapest’s most photographed monument, St. Stephen’s Basilica is dedicated to St. Stephen – the first king of Hungary. With impressive architecture, an opulent interior featuring intricate paintings, and breathtaking views from its dome, many recognise this sight as the jewel in Budapest’s crown.
