We board a paddle steamer that takes us across the water to this charming city quarter - admire the views and enjoy coffee and cake as we travel. Upon arrival, we make our way to the Pillnitz Park, which surrounds the Palace, once the summer residence of a number of important government officials and kings.

Full Day: Konigstein Fortress and Bastei Bridge

We make our way to see the famous Bastei Bridge today. The bridge, constructed from sandstone, links a number of the stunning rock formations, which are part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.

After our time here, we journey onwards to the Konigstein Fortress, also known as the ‘Saxon Bastille’. One of Europe’s largest hilltop fortifications, this impressive fortress sits atop a 9.5 hectare rock plateau and boasts over 50 buildings. The first reference to Konigstein Fortress dates from 1233 and was made by King Wenceslas I of Bohemia.

Today, this grand fortress is an open air museum, which we will enjoy a guided tour of. After our time here, we begin our return journey, travelling via the historical town of Pirna.
