Our river cruise begins in the magnificent city of Cologne, as we embark the MPS Da Vinci and enjoy our first night on-board. In the morning, we sail to Bonn during breakfast, arriving by midday, with time to explore this beautiful city. Bonn is known as Beethoven’s hometown - take in sights such as the musician’s birthplace and Bonn Cathedral, or perhaps visit one of its many museums. We will then continue our cruise to Konigswinter, arriving before dinner.

In the morning, we cruise to Koblenz, arriving at noon. It will then be time to discover the enchanting scenery of the Ahr Valley with an included tour. Known as the ‘wildest daughter of the Rhine’, the Ahr Valley is famous for its terraced vineyards, which produce some of the best red wine in Germany. Our tour will take us through the valley by coach, before visiting the medieval town of Ahrweiler.

From Koblenz, we cruise to historical Rudesheim, best known for its bustling Drosselgasse. Visit this busy 15th-century lane while at leisure in Rudesheim to take in its many restaurants and wine taverns. We moor in Rudesheim overnight and, in the early morning, sail onwards to Speyer, thought of as one of the oldest cities in Germany.

We will have the afternoon to explore Speyer - take in its red sandstone cathedral, housing the tombs of eight Holy Roman emperors and German kings; and see the old town gate. Return to the MPS Da Vinci for our evening meal.

Awake to the beautiful changing scenery of the Rhine as we enjoy a day of sailing. We leave Germany behind as we cruise to Strasbourg in eastern France - why not relax on the Sun Deck to better admire the views? Arriving in Strasbourg by mid-afternoon, we’ll have an included excursion to explore this captivating city, from its charming ‘La Petite France’ neighbourhood, to its magnificent Gothic cathedral.

As our river cruise begins to draw to a close, we sail overnight from Strasbourg to Basel, arriving by early afternoon and spending the day here. This remarkable Swiss city is known for its cultural attractions, including its cathedral and many historical churches, museums, art galleries and entire Old Town.

We enjoy our final night on-board the MPS Da Vinci with a Captain’s gala dinner, before disembarking in the morning following a superb river cruise.

    Towers and canals in Strasbourg
    Half Day: Discover Strasbourg

Why not join our shuttle service to the city of Strasbourg to discover the city’s many sights? Strasbourg sits right on the border between France and Germany, and so boasts flavours of both countries.

Spend time exploring the city's famous sights, such as Strasbourg Cathedral, one of Europe’s most beautiful examples of Gothic architecture. Made from pink sandstone, the cathedral is incredibly unique, and its intricate interior carvings are captivating. We'll also discover Strasbourg's famous astronomical clock inside the cathedral - it was erected in the 1800s and is actually the third to be found here. The original clock was placed in the 14th century.

A must-see in Strasbourg is the 'La Petite France' neighbourhood. Easily the prettiest part of the city, this fairy-tale neighbourhood features timbered buildings, quaint bridges, and colourful flower boxes.

    OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS

    Ahr Valley
    Ahr Valley

Today we explore this beautiful region, known locally as the ‘wildest daughter of the Rhine’. The origins of this name are quite obvious when you look at the spectacular scenery, as the Ahr River meanders its way through the picturesque valleys, with breath-taking rock formations, idyllic castles, ruins and terraced vineyards rolling down the hillsides.

We visit the charming town of Ahrweiler, known as the ‘metropolis of red wine’. The town is surrounded by medieval town walls, and many of the buildings are original, giving it a truly medieval atmosphere. We continue our journey back to the ship, passing through pretty little villages along the way.

    Basel
    Bustling Basel
The town of Basel lies in the north-western corner of Switzerland. The town shares borders with France and Germany and is the heart of this tri-national region - the Dreilandereck (three countries' corner).

The city has a beautiful medieval old town centre, with the famous Basel Munster (cathedral), built between 1019-1500 in a stunning Romanesque and Gothic style. There are many beautiful medieval buildings lining the square, the Marktplatz (Market square), where fresh fruits, vegetables, breads, pastries, and flowers are available each working day.

Meanwhile, the Rathaus (Town hall) is situated on the Marktplatz and is a beautifully renovated Renaissance palace, which is still in official use today. The city also has many parks and recreational areas, a wide range of restaurants, and unlimited shopping. The city can also boast a carnival that ranks with those of Venice and Rio de Janeiro, plus several world class art museums.
    Godesburg Castle, Bonn
    Discover Bonn

Once the capital of West Germany, Bonn lies on the banks of the river Rhine. The city is best known culturally as the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven and is often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Romantic Rhine'.

Bonn is very much an atmospheric city with a rich culture. We explore this magnificent city on foot with our expert guide as we walk along Poppelsdorf Avenue to Bonn University, the former residence of the electors of Cologne. We see the Minster Cathedral, the Beethoven monument and the market place with the old town hall.

    Wine glasses
    Evening Wine Tasting and Siegfried’s

Join us this evening as we board the Little Tourist Train to our first port of call, the world-famous Siegfried's Musik Kabinett just off the famous Drosselgasse.

This Museum is home to one of the world’s biggest collections of self-playing musical instruments, where visitors can admire over 350 exhibits. Our tour concludes with a visit to Adolf's wine cellar to taste his famous local wines.

Here, we learn about the different wines of this region, the history of winegrowing in the region, the way the wines are produced and their particularities. Following this we get to taste the local wines, which are served with a pretzel to neutralize the taste of the different wines. A great way to spend an evening in Rudesheim!

    Speyer Cathedral
    Historical Speyer & Cathedral
Dominated by its Romanesque Cathedral, Speyer is one of Germany’s oldest cities and is the resting place of eight medieval emperors and kings of the Salian, Staufer and Hapsburg dynasties. During our guided walking tour we visit the stunning Cathedral - a UNESCO heritage site and the largest of Germany's three Imperial Romanesque Cathedrals.

Speyer Dom survived destruction by the French armies in 1689 and is today considered one of the finest examples of High Romanic architecture in Germany (entrance included). We head through the beautiful historical old town seeing the Alportal (Old Gate). Built between 1230 and 1250, the gate is one of the 68 towers and gates within the city walls. We continue to Trinity Church, constructed in memory of the protest that took place at the Diet of Speyer.
    Rudesheim
    Panoramic Rudesheim

One of Germany’s most-visited towns, Rudesheim is famous for its winemaking. Join us on our guided walking tour of this wonderful UNESCO town as we see Eagle Tower, which dates back to the 15th century, the Market Square with St Jakobus Catholic Parish, the impressive Klunkardshof building, and the famous Drosselgasse, with its many restaurants, shops and wine bars.

We also see Bromserburg Castle, Bosenburg Castle and the Bromserhof. We then make our way to the cable car station as we glide over the hillside vineyards, before reaching the Niederwald summit.

The famous monument here was erected in the years 1877-1883 and symbolizes the re-establishment of the German Empire after the Franco-German War 1870-1871. Here we enjoy the magnificent panoramic views over Rudesheim’s old town and the Rhine Valley, with its many green isles dotted along the silvery Rhine.

    Strasbourg
    Waterways of Strasbourg

We take a guided tour of Strasbourg by boat cruise and to admire this beautiful city from the water.

The city of Strasbourg is chiefly known for its sandstone Gothic Cathedral, with its famous astronomical clock, and for its medieval cityscape of Rhineland black and white timber-framed buildings. These are particularly known for the Petite-France district, and also in the streets and squares surrounding the cathedral, where the renowned Maison Kammerzsell stands out.

On our boat cruise we gently glide past the must-see attractions of the Alsatian capital, such as the famous Petite France and tanners’ quarter, the Covered Bridges and the Vauban dam, the Neustadt imperial quarter, and the European institutions. A truly beautiful city!
