    View of Cologne
    Panoramic Cologne

Join us as we explore this historical city! Cologne has strong Roman ties and is the fourth-largest city in Germany, with more than one million inhabitants. The city is located on both sides of the River Rhine and is home to the famous Kolner Dom (Cologne Cathedral). During World War II, the inner city of Cologne was completely destroyed and was then fully reconstructed in the 1950s.

With our expert guide, we see many of Cologne’s fascinating sights, including the ancient Roman city walls, which were the longest in Germany; the impressive medieval gates; and the twelve large Romanesque churches, which are located in the confined area within the boundaries of the medieval city walls. Many of Cologne's churches rank among the most important in Western Europe.

We also see the world-famous 4711 – the original Eau de Cologne headquarters; the medieval Old City with its impressive town houses, dating back to the 14th century; and the historical Rathaus (City Hall).

    Bamberg Little Venice
    Bamberg ‘Little Venice’

Bamberg is a beautiful city located in Upper Franconia on the river Regnitz, close to its confluence with the Main River. The city of Bamberg prides itself with being on seven hills, as it symbolises similarity to Rome. The hills are Cathedral Hill, Michaelsberg, Kaulberg/Obere Pfarre, Stefansberg, Jakobsberg, Altenburger Hill and Abtsberg.

The Old Town of Bamberg is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage, primarily for of its authentic medieval appearance. During our walking tour there is the chance to see The Dom, which contains the intriguing Bamberg Rider sculpture - no one knows for sure who the young royal rider is! The Altes Rathaus is perched in the middle of a bridge and is an amazing sight. Other sights to take in include the Regnitz River, the Cathedral (dating from 1237), with the tombs of emperor Henry II and Pope Clement II; Alte Hofhaltung, residence of the bishops in the 16th and 17th centuries; Neue Residenz, residence of the bishops after the 17th century; the Old Town Hall (dating from 1386), built in the middle of the Regnitz River and accessible by two bridges.

We also see Klein-Venedig (‘Little Venice’), a colony of picturesque fishermen's houses from the 19th century along one side of the Regnitz River.

    Wurzburg
    Discover Wurzburg & Residenz Palace

Join us for a guided tour of this wonderful city. Wurzburg is the capital of Lower Franconia and is one of the loveliest baroque cities in Germany, famous for being the centre of Franconian wine production. Wurzburg’s attractions are countless and it’s hard to believe that 90 per cent of the city was devastated in an air raid lasting 20 minutes on the 2nd of March 1945. In a miraculous rebuilding programme, nearly every major structure has been restored.

One of Wurzburg’s famous landmarks is the mighty fortress, Festung Marienberg, which sits on the hillside overlooking the city. We explore the Old Town on foot – we see the market square, the late-Gothic Church of St. Mary, and next to it is the Falkenhaus with its beautiful Rococo facade. Another highlight is the four-towered Wurzburg Cathedral St.Kilian, which is one of the largest Romanesque churches in Germany.

We continue to the impressive Residenz Palace. The former residence of the Wurzburg prince bishops and one of the most important baroque palaces in Europe, today it’s on UNESCO's World Heritage list. The Palace, known as the ‘Castle above all Castles’, was built from 1720 – 1744 and was based on a design by Balthasar Neumann. The building masterfully combines not only the various German Baroque styles, but also French Chateau architecture and the imperial baroque style of Vienna, the result being a highly individual and distinctive style. The highlight of the Palace is the interior decor, especially the ceiling frescos in the Imperial Hall and above the staircase.

    Passau
    Explore Passau

Join us on our guided walking tour of Passau. Situated at the confluence of the rivers Danube, Inn, and Ilz, Passau is known worldwide as the ‘Three Rivers City’. The Old Town of Passau was rebuilt in the 17th century by Italian Baroque masters after a devastating town fire. In the heart of Passau rises the Passauer Stephansdom (Cathedral of St Steven’s) with its three characteristic, green onion-domed towers.

In the Old Town, there are many beautiful churches, the New Bishop’s Residence and the magnificent Gothic Town Hall to discover. The fortress ‘Veste Oberhaus’ lies to the north of Passau’s Old Town, with the Pilgrimage Church ‘Mariahilf’ lying to the south.
