    • The Hotel was originally called the Riggs Windermere Hotel, named after Thomas Rigg, who built it in 1847
    • A recent refurbishment to the bar and restaurant has left us with a modern look, but the hotel keeps its charm

    Excursion to bustling Ambleside, situated at the head of Lake Windermere, pretty Grasmere, the home of Wordsworth and the famous gingerbread shop and calling in at Keswick on the shores of Derwentwater.

    Take in more splendid scenery as we enjoy an excursion to Coniston, where we take to the waters and enjoy a cruise aboard the Steam Yacht Gondola - an elegant coal-fired steam yacht, providing a nostalgic sailing experience.

    Today we are off exploring the Lake District with Mountain Goat Tours - visiting places not accessible by our Grand Tourer coach. Travelling by minibus with a local guide, our tour includes Langdales, Eskdale, a journey on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, a visit to the owl centre at Muncaster Castle and Wastwater - recently voted Britain’s favourite view.
