    Full Day: Cisternino and Locorontondo

Breath-taking scenery, towns of elegant beauty, and grand architecture await us today as we discover the Puglia region.

Sit back and relax as we explore the stunning views of the charming, small town of Cisternino that has remained virtually intact for centuries.  Its distinctive whitewashed houses, narrow, shady streets, historical churches and elegant central piazza open out onto a series of panoramic viewpoints, where visitors can take in the surrounding countryside, with its rolling hills and dry stone walls.

Discover the 13th-century Norman Swabian tower, the statue of Saint Nicola and the Baroque Church of San Cataldo, to name but a few of its amazing attractions.

Our tour continues to Cisternino’s fantastic sister town, Locorotondo, one of the prettiest towns in the Puglia region. Explore the narrow rectangular houses with pointed gabled roofs and admire the North European and Baltic architecture that can be found as you wander the narrow streets. There’s a lot to see here - for instance, the original town gates and the stunning Romanesque Church of the Madonna della Greca are both excellent sights.

The Sassi streets lead over the tops of other houses and have a unique, winding quality to them.

While we’re in Matera, we’ll get to wander through the labyrinth of alleys and streets where history is etched into the cave dwellings, and admire the picturesque landscape of the Murgia plateau that surrounds the ancient cave city.

Explore the spectacular scenery, with fields filled with vineyards, hidden gems and quaint villages found throughout this amazing destination. We’ll journey through the heart of Asti in order to discover this famous winemaking region.

Nestling between the Langhe and Monferrato region, the Cantina Sociale di Canelli association has been producing these classic wines of Piedmont since 1933, bringing together over 200 vine-growers.

This wide assortment of products includes the most prestigious wines of the Asti area. There’s a unique system used here, with red wines being produced from the grapes of old vines. This region also produces light, fresh and fruity whites, as well as the traditional sweet and dry white wine known as the Asti Spumanti.

We’ll explore the winery of the Cantina, which stretches across two thousand square metres of land. During our time here, we’ll learn about the various processes that take place from the planting of grapes to the finished product, and will get to enjoy the flavours of the different varieties when we enjoy a few samples of these delicious wines.

Orvieto has an excellent reputation for its fantastic wines, being thought of as one of the best-known regions in Umbria for its viticulture. This region has relied on its superb winemaking abilities for centuries, and this has shaped Orvieto’s culture and economy over the years.

During our time in Orvieto, we’ll be given the opportunity to sample some of the region’s most famous wines on an exciting wine tasting excursion. This will allow us to find out for ourselves just what makes these wines so special!

It’s the Paglia River that makes Orvieto such a fantastic winemaking region. This river has provided the ideal conditions for winemaking, and Orvieto wine has become one of the most popular varieties in the world. Without a doubt, Orvieto wine is the best-known wine in the whole of Umbria.

Both sweet and dry wines are produced here, although most Orvieto wines are thought of as dry and peach-scented.
