    Whether you want to go Christmas shopping in style or enjoy an amazing festive break this year, this holiday to Germany will provide you with exactly what you’re after! Staying at the Mercure Elbepromenade Hotel, on the outskirts of Dresden, we’ll take in two incredible Christmas markets and will enjoy free time in Dresden and Prague to explore. 

    The Dresden Christmas Market is the oldest in Germany and is known locally as Striezelmarkt. With stalls selling everything from toys to hand-made trinkets, visitors should definitely sample the delicious Hefestriezel (German Christmas cake) that many stalls sell! 

    In Prague, we’ll have two markets to choose from, both of which will offer up excellent opportunities to enjoy the festive atmosphere here. With amazing decorations and stalls selling all kinds of fantastic items and delicacies, there’s something for everyone here.

    Full Day: Dresden Christmas Market

    Dresden Christmas Market is famous for being one of the oldest in Germany. Locally known as the ‘Striezelmarkt’, this Christmas market is a festive melting pot of amazing Christmas decorations and shopping opportunities. The entire city practically becomes one big Christmas market during this season, as markets are set up along its most famous streets, in its squares and along side-streets. There’s always something new to see here, with traditional German pottery, glassware, lace, handmade wooden figurines, clocks, engravings and everything in between on display in the markets’ huts.

    Full Day: Prague Christmas Market
    We venture across the border into the Czech Republic, going on to visit the wonderful capital city of Prague. Enjoy time at leisure to explore the fantastic Christmas markets here, including the seasonal stalls found in the Old Town Square and those on Wenceslas Square. We can also spend time exploring the popular sights here, such as Charles Bridge and beautiful castle.

    Leipzig Christmas Market
    Full day: Leipzig Christmas Market
    With a history going back to 1458, Leipzig has one of the largest and most beautiful Christmas Markets in Germany with around 250 twinkling stalls located on the city’s historical market square. Set in front of the Old Town Hall, this is also where Johann Sebastian Bach signed his employment contract as Leipzig’s musical director.
