    The George Hotel in Chollerford is a perfect retreat for leisure travellers, and a property we consider to be one of the most relaxing hotels in Northumbria. It is superbly located just 20 minutes from Newcastle International Airport, and just 30 minutes from the centre of Newcastle. With 47 bedrooms over two floors, the hotel is a historic building dating back to the 1700s. It is set in a beautiful location by the North Tyne river, just five miles from the market town of Hexham. Game fishing is extremely popular on this stretch of the river, with permits available at the hotel. Northumberland National Park is situated just five miles to the west. The hotel is also superbly equipped with leisure facilities. Our leisure club includes a swimming pool, Jacuzzi bath, Sauna and steam room. You’ll find the quality of the hotel is amply matched by our staff.     We enjoy an excursion to Durham, in the ‘Land of the Prince Bishops’, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The magnificent cathedral, Norman castle, medieval streets and riverside walks all combine to make an unforgettable visit.

    We enjoy a trip to Alnwick - once the administrative town for the whole of Northumberland. Here, we visit the majestic castle. Once an important fort, the castle has more recently been used as a setting for TV's popular Downton Abbey and during our visit we will enjoy a Downton tour taking us through State Rooms that were used for filming and you will also be able to see costumes and props that were used from the filming.
    Hexham Abbey in spring
    Half Day: Hexham
    Make the most of a jaunt to the nearby, medieval town of Hexham. Stone architecture, cobbled streets and historic buildings blend with delightful boutiques, high street favourites and quirky coffee shops, as well as the beautiful Abbey which is well worth a visit!

    Make the most of a jaunt to the nearby, medieval town of Hexham. Stone architecture, cobbled streets and historic buildings blend with delightful boutiques, high street favourites and quirky coffee shops, as well as the beautiful Abbey which is well worth a visit!
