This majestic cruise on the Rhine gives you the opportunity to explore more than the usual sights. You can relax and take in the views as your ship sails through some of the Rhine's most stunning scenery in three countries - Germany, France and Switzerland.

You will have the opportunity to take optional excursions to the stunningly beautiful Black Forest, romantic Heidelberg with its imposing sandstone castle or into Switzerland for more incredible vistas. Along the way, enjoy Strasbourg, the entire town centre of which is a World Heritage Site; bijou Speyer and vibrant Basel. There’s an endless list of sights to see and things to do!


Must See: Basel

The town of Basel lies on the north-western corner of Switzerland and is at the heart of the tri-national region of Dreilandereck, meaning ‘three countries corner’, as it shares its borders with Germany and France.

Basel has a beautiful medieval town centre with many historical buildings to admire, such as the Romanesque Munster (cathedral), the Renaissance Rathaus (town hall) and the many buildings by well-known architects such as Herzog & De Meuron, Richard Meier and Diener & Diener.

Holiday Details

Cruising Itinerary

Wednesday: Embark in Cologne
Welcome to the MPS Rotterdam. After embarking, relax on board or explore the city. With its colourful old town, gothic cathedral and cafés, it’s easy to see why Cologne is so popular.
Thursday: Cologne - Koblenz - Rüdesheim
Setting sail in the morning, we arrive first in Koblenz, where the Rhine meets the Moselle. Later we sail to Rüdesheim, in the heart of German wine-producing country.
Friday: Rüdesheim - Mannheim - Speyer
Our first port of call today is Mannheim, with its lovely river-side park. We will then cruise to Speyer where you can take an optional excursion to romantic Heidelberg, the setting for the 1920s movie ‘The Student Prince’.
Saturday: Speyer - Rastatt - Strasbourg
On to Strasbourg, the capital of the Alsace region lies just over the Germany border. A must for all visitors is the Grande Ile, or town centre, World Heritage Site since 1988, the first time an entire city centre was given that title.
Sunday: Strasbourg to Breisach
Today, we make our way to the historic town of Breisach. Wander about to glimpse views of Hagenbach Tower, the beautiful Cathedral and the whimsical Jugglers’ Fountain.
Monday: Breisach
We remain in quaint Breisach today giving you more time to explore the area. You could take the optional excursion to the superbly scenic Black Forest. With its rich mythologies, the forest is one of Germany’s most popular attractions.
Tuesday: Breisach to Basel
Sailing the 37 miles from Breisach, we cross the Swiss border to Basel, on arrival there will be an optional city tour to explore Bustling Basel. A beautiful city with numerous buildings designed by well-known architects and various heritage sites of national significance, including the entire old town.
Wednesday: Disembark in Basel
Say a fond farewell to the MPS Rotterdam.

Join by Coach

Tuesday: UK to Northern France Across to Calais and then to your overnight hotel in time for dinner.
Wednesday: Northern France to Cologne Join the MPS Rotterdam in Cologne for your cruise.
Wednesday: Basel to Reims area Disembark the MPS Rotterdam and travel to Reims. Time this afternoon to enjoy an optional excursion in Reims. Enjoy dinner at your overnight hotel.
Thursday: Reims area to UK We travel on to Calais for our ferry to Dover and continue home.

Join by Air

Wednesday: UK to Cologne/Düsseldorf Fly to Cologne or Düsseldorf where you will be met at the airport by a representative and transferred to the MPS Rotterdam for your cruise.
Wednesday: Basel/Zurich to UK From the MPS Rotterdam, transfer to Basel/Zurich airport for the flight back to the UK.

Join by Rail

Wednesday: London St Pancras to Cologne Meet at St Pancras station to join the Eurostar service to Brussels. At Brussels we change trains and travel on to Cologne where we join the MPS Rotterdam.
Wednesday: Basel to London St Pancras Disembark the MPS Rotterdam and transfer to Basel rail station for the service to Paris, then on to the Eurostar service to London.
