Holiday Details

A relaxing trip through the spectacular Rhine and Moselle valleys is the perfect river cruise experience. Panoramic views and stunning landscapes slip quietly by as you sail, while the various ports of call include ancient towns with castles and medieval forts, pretty villages, summer resorts and the town of Bonn, birthplace of Beethoven. This is a cruise combining the best of both the Rhine & Moselle rivers, offering you superb scenery all the way.

Wednesday: Embark in Cologne
After joining the MPS Rotterdam, there’s time to explore Cologne’s cafés, bars, shops, old town or gothic cathedral.

Thursday: Cologne – Königswinter – Andernach
A morning sail to Königswinter, a pretty summer retreat at the foot of the Siedengerbirge, or seven mountains, and home to Drachenfels Castle. We then visit Andernach, one of the oldest towns in Germany, containing medieval remnants of the old town and a well-preserved castle.

Friday: Andernach to Cochem
Known as the ‘Pearl of the Moselle’, Cochem is dominated by the fairytale 11th-century Reichsburg Castle standing guard above the town and river.

Saturday: Cochem to Koblenz
Koblenz is situated at the confluence of the Rhine with the Moselle and marks the northern end of the Rhine Gorge, declared a World Heritage site in 2002. There is also a new cable car connecting the town centre to the Fortress on the opposite side of the river, a ride offering truly spectacular views of the Rhine.

Sunday: Koblenz to Rüdesheim
Heading south we stop at the popular resort of Rüdesheim, at the southern entrance to the Loreley valley, with its choice of restaurants, wine houses and open-air taverns to enjoy.

Monday: Rüdesheim – Boppard – Linz
Our first port of call today is the ancient fortress town of Boppard known as the ‘Pearl of the Rhine’, which has an unspoilt promenade alongside the river. The charming city of Linz is decorated with colourful half-timbered houses.

Tuesday: Linz – Remagen – Bonn – Cologne
Two more treats today - Remagen, known for the Ludenorff Bridge from the movie ‘The Bridge At Remagen’; and Bonn, the birthplace of Beethoven, with its well-kept botanic gardens and palace.

Wednesday: Disembark in Cologne
Sadly, it's time to say goodbye to the MPS Rotterdam.
