Get stunning views of Germany’s hills and vineyards as you glide along the beautiful Main and Danube rivers. The highlight of this cruise is the Main - Danube Canal, an engineering marvel of over 16 lochs stretching over 106 miles. You’ll also experience Linz; Passau, near the Black Forest; medieval Regensburg; castle-filled Riedenburg; Mühlhausen, a walled medieval city and the romantic corners of Nüremburg. Explore the influential architecture of Schweinfurt, heavily bombed in WWII and Würzburg, a beautiful Baroque city. History, culture and a fantastic ship – what could be better?

Holiday Details

Wednesday: Embark in Linz
We’ll arrive at the MPS Da Vinci in time for dinner and settling in on board.

Thursday: Passau to Regensburg
Passau is a historic city with Celtic and Roman beginnings. Seek out Dom St Stephan boasting the world’s largest church organ. This evening we cruise in the direction of Regensburg.

Friday: Regensburg to Riedenburg
We arrive in Regensburg in the early morning. The old town of Regensburg has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2006. Later we sail to Riedenburg, a town with three castles: Rabenstein, Tachenstein and Rosenburg. Two of the fortresses are in ruins, but Rosenburg Castle houses a falconry centre.

Saturday: Riedenburg - Mühlhausen - Nüremburg
Setting sail in late morning, we have a leisurely day of cruising as we cruise the Main-Danube Canal. An engineering marvel completed in 1992 with over 16 lochs stretching over 106 miles of spectacular viewpoints and valleys. We arrive in Mühlhausen early this evening, just enough time for a stroll through the historic town centre with its old city wall. Later this evening we depart Mühlhausen and continue our cruise along the canal to Nüremburg.

Sunday: Nüremberg to Bamberg
We sail through the night to reach Nüremburg early this morning. Time to explore the old town, where restored timber-framed houses give you an idea of how the craftsmen of the town lived. Try the Nürnberger Bratwürste, a spicier version of Germany’s famous dish.

Monday: Bamberg to Schweinfurt
We arrive in Bamberg this morning. This village was laid out according to medieval planning rules as a cross, with the churches of St Michael, St Stephen, St Gangolf, and St Jacob at the four cardinal points. After lunch we then head to Schweinfurt arriving during dinner. Take an evening stroll along the promenade in Schweinfurt for great views of the Main and interesting monuments.

Tuesday: Schweinfurt to Würzburg
We sail through the night and on to Würzburg. Würzburg is a fascinating city where the architecture is the star attraction. Be sure to visit the Residenz Palace!

Wednesday: Disembark in Würzburg
Time to leave the elegant MPS Da Vinci with fond memories.
