Cologne and its cathedral

Although Cologne is the starting point for our cruise, we have the opportunity to explore this fine city before we set sail, or by extending your stay if you are travelling by air or rail.

Cologne is famous for its magnificent cathedral, with spires towering over Germany’s oldest city. Built between 1248 and 1880, Cologne Cathedral is regarded as a masterwork of medieval Gothic architecture.

Cologne is also a major cultural centre and has a vibrant arts scene with over 40 museums including the Museum Ludwig, which houses a large collection of pop art.

Cruising itnerary

Sunday: Embark in Cologne
Welcome to the MPS Rotterdam. After embarking, relax on board or explore the colourful old town, gothic cathedral or cafes of Cologne.

Monday: Cologne - Königswinter - Andernach
We set sail today for Königswinter, located at the foot of the Siebengebirge, or Seven Mountains. The dramatic mountain setting with the changing colours are sure to be a great start to your autumn cruise.

Tuesday: Andernach to Rüdesheim
To Rüdesheim today, a popular resort in the midst of the German wine-producing region. Definitely worth experiencing is the Drosselgasse, a 15thcentury cobblestone street lined with restaurants, wine houses and open-air taverns.

Wednesday: Rüdesheim to Cochem
Another treat today as we journey to Cochem, known as the ‘Pearl of the Moselle’. Cochem is dominated by the fairy-tale 11th-century Reichsburg Castle standing guard above the town and river.

Thursday: Cochem to Koblenz
We cruise today for Koblenz, which marks the northern end of the Rhine Gorge, a World Heritage Site since 2002. Don’t miss the gothic churches and medieval Moselle Bridge.

Friday: Koblenz - Linz - Cologne
In the morning we journey to Linz on the Rhine, where the colourful half-timbered houses of the market square rival the autumn colours of the surrounding scenery. In the afternoon, sit back and take in the views as we make our way back to Cologne.

Saturday: Disembark in Cologne
Time to bid a fond farewell to the MPS Rotterdam.

Join by Coach

Saturday: UK to Northern France Travel to Dover, then by ferry to Calais and on to your overnight hotel.

Sunday: Northern France to Cologne Join the MPS Rotterdam in Cologne.

Saturday: Cologne to Northern France Journey by coach to your overnight hotel.

Sunday: Northern France to UK We travel on to Calais for our ferry to Dover, and continue home.

Join by Air

Sunday: UK to Cologne/Düsseldorf Fly to Cologne or Düsseldorf where you will be met at the airport by a representative and transferred to the MPS Rotterdam for your cruise.

Saturday: Cologne/Düsseldorf to UK Transfer to Cologne or Düsseldorf airport for the flight back to the UK.

Join by Rail

Sunday: London St Pancras to Cologne We meet at St Pancras for the Eurostar to Brussels and onwards rail service to Cologne to join the cruise.

Saturday: Cologne to London St Pancras Rail service to Brussels then onwards by Eurostar to St Pancras.
