For anyone who enjoys trains - a must! For everyone else - a good holiday!

For 6 nights we stayed at Pension Sonnhoff in Weising, Austria which is comfortable and clean. The continental breakfasts are good and the evening meals are excellent. The owner goes out of her way to ensure her guests are happy. On the outward journey we stayed overnight at the Park Inn in Liege. The breakfast was disappointing - the dining room could not accomodate about half the guests arriving for breakfast. This meant that a lot of people had their breakfast standing, or sitting on high bar stools (us included) in the small bar area at the entrance to the breakfast room.On the return journey we stayed overnight at the Hotel Buschhausen in Bad Aachen. The evening meal was excellent but the breakfast was very poor. The included excursions were good. As we had been in the area previously, we did not go on the optional excursions again (were good last time around). The coach driver was informative but on occasion could be rather long winded in his 'story telling'.

Overall very good holiday which included 3 excursions

The feeder coach to Hythe work well and it was not long before we were on our way to Austria. The overnight stop Hotel was okay at Bad Aachenn. We had a warm welcome on arrival at our Hotel Sonnhof at Weising, with drinks and nibbles. We had a large bedroom with a balcony overlooking the village. There was plenty of choice of food for breakfast, including cooked items. In the evenings we had a 4 course meal plus coffee, if you wanted drinks these were reasonably priced. Overall we were very pleased with the Hotel. The optional trip on Monday was to Gerlos Pass and the Krimml Falls, our driver added an extra stop at Kitzbuhel which added to the trip. The optional trip on Tuesday was to Swarovski Crystal which we did not do. Our first included trip (Wednesday) was on the steam cog railway to lake Achensee. The driver made arrangements for any body who wanted to have a round trip on the lake steamers (cost not included). Overall a very pleasant day.The next day was on the Zillertal Railway by steam train to Mayrhofen with a stop on the way back. Again another pleasant day.. Most people thought the best day was to Wendelstein Rack Railway which took us by electric train high up into the Mountains with fantastic views on the way up and at the top. On the way back we stopped at Kufstein and the driver made an additional stop at Rattenberg which we all really liked. On Saturday we headed back home with an overnight stop at Liege in the Mercure Hotel. The evening meal, room and breakfast was first class. The driver followed the route laid down by the Company to Liege. There were many roadworks/traffic hold ups on this route which meant we arrived 90 minutes late at Liege. The next day we headed towards Calais and on to Hythe. Again this all worked well. For our Group we had the advantage of a good driver who went out of his way to make the excursions and journey more interesting. Whist some people in the party were interested in railways the majority were not. However from my conversations everybody seemed to enjoy the included trips. It was a good holiday and excellent value for what we paid. The village of Weising, although pretty, only has a few shops, cafe and a small supermarket (with nice cafeteria). There are regular buses through the village to Lake Achensee and Jenbach. If you asked the Hotel they should provide a card (Achensee Card) free of charge, which covers free bus travel to the Lake and back during your stay. The only downside was the overnight stay at Bad Aachen where you are unable to purchase any food from the Hotel and there are no restaurants/cafe in the area when you arrive in the evening (around 9.30 pm). There is no included meal for this evening. Also there is 2 days of coach travel to get to Austria and the same back with early morning departures (around 7.15 am). Overall we had a lovely holiday and it was excellent value for what we paid. Would well recommend this holiday.
