About Royal Hotel (Whitby)

High on the West Cliff, the Royal occupies a commanding position with wonderful views over the beaches, harbour and lovely old town, and towards the dramatic abbey ruins. Bursting with seafaring heritage, Whitby's ancient streets invite you to step back in time, so much so that you can almost expect to bump into Captain Cook when following his trail! Step inside the Royal, meanwhile and you'll be taken into another world of holiday relaxation and fun. With a variety of games, activities, a comfortable lounge and an entertainment room where you can 'trip the light fantastic', there's plenty to entertain.

This hotel has a car park with a limited amount of priority spaces, these can be reserved at £5.00 per day. On street parking is usually available and there is also a public car park nearby, charges apply

It's the 21st Century wake up

This hotel is very good with extremely good value for money and fairly good Cabarets. The breakfast and evening meals are very good as are the staff who serve them. There is one major drawback and one which must cost Shearings a lot of lost revenue from reps and business people and that is the lack of free Wi-Fi in fact there is no Wi-Fi connection at all in spite of the fact that down the road is a small pub with this facility. Come on wake up Shearings and introduce Wi-Fi.

Royal Hotel Whitby

The Staff were friendly but very busy the hotel was warm and inviting as it was bitter outside, yes it could have been cleaner and was in need of decorating but it wasn't bad like some reviews have said, our bedroom was a double it wasn't very large but was ok the bedding was clean and the rooms were warm in fact too hot for myself. Some of the food could have been better but was edible. On the whole it was what I expected for the money I paid.

Weather awful, Hotel great

Just returned from Wet and windy Whitby, couldn't fault the hotel, food or service at the Royal. With a seafront room overlooking the harbour, the room was warm and cosy. Food was first rate as always, piping hot to the table and polite and friendly staff, the entertainment was First Rate. Our tour driver was great, the only fault I have was our feeder coach taking over 2 1/2 hours both ways from departures, I think an upgrade to satnav's is well in order and a bit more info than outside a chippy !!

Royal Hotel Whitby

My friend and myself just returned from 4 day break in The Royal Hotel in Whitby, and we had a wonderful time. All of the staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful; they couldn't do enough for us! The food, beverages and cleanliness were excellent, we'll definitely come again. Thank you!

Autumn Break

Hotel clean but needs some TLC. Our room was fine but the bathroom needed updating taped up bath panel, rust round bath taps, and shower flooded floor due to poorly installed curtain... The food was very good; portion sizes were more than adequate (especially the breakfasts) served by friendly staff. Lift was on the small size.

Royal Hotel Whitby

Myself and Annie have just returned from a four day break in THE ROYAL WHITBY this is the second time of visiting this hotel, we took my parents who are in their 80's, again we must say again no regrets, service superb, room with a sea view ,wonderful. The food was as always beautifully presented, compliments to the chef, no one needs go hungry here, extra rolls, just ask, plenty of toast, more offered. I have seen a review which said that he was left hungry!!How big was he then? At these prices superb.

Excellent

A party of four of us have just stayed here for the weekend (Fri-Sun). We found the hotel room very good, with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in any hotel. We paid extra for a sea view which was lovely. The food was excellent, served very quickly and efficiently by friendly staff, who were really on the ball. We had plenty of hot water and the rooms were warm. The only criticism I have is the general shabby state of the building, which was a letdown. Should be refurbished.

Turkey and Tinsel

We visited the Royal for tinsel & turkey. The hotel was ok but a little dated... Can't fault the staff, they were great especially in the dining room, they couldn’t do enough for us. The entertainment wasn’t up to much for a t & t visit only had two artists on over the 4 night stay. Over all we had a great time there. would definitely recommend The hotel.

Must Go Again

We have been to the Royal before for short breaks but this time spent a week there .From the minute we arrived from checking in to getting the key to our room new we would enjoy .we paid extra for sea view and what a view we had of the Abbey the room itself was fantastic .we can’t fault this holiday from start to finish it was first class from food to service all round .worth a stay there would highly recommend whether it a short break or week will definitely be returning if not this year next.

Brill brill brill

Staying at the Royal Hotel has always been one of the things I want to do before I die and it didn't disappoint I absolutely loved it true there are areas that are a bit dated but it adds to the character. The waiting on staff couldn't be faulted (are they Polish) our waiter (Michael) couldn't have done more for us he was efficient to the letter we loved him. The cleaning staff were also super efficient you couldn't fault them. All in all a brilliant holiday thank you Shearings and Tony.

Christmas 2011

Just a brief note to thank all concerned for an excellent (and apparently no expense spared) Christmas. We changed Hotels at virtually the last minute as we have stayed at the Royal on numerous occasions but never at Christmas. What a good move it turned out to be! The staff (as ALWAYS) were most attentive and helpful and we would certainly wish to use room 3 when we next come to Whitby which will happen in the near future. Thank you ALL once again for making Christmas so enjoyable.

Just Excellent

Went to the royal for a winter break all inclusive with Shearings, Monday to Friday. food and service was just excellent they couldn't do enough for you, especially our waiter Michael (polish with very good English)entertainment great with quick service at the bar (all free might I had).the bedrooms were a bit dated but very clean. Cleaners and reception very polite and helpful. Very friendly driver with tony. Would definitely go back to the royal with Shearings.

Superb

Just got back from Whitby and it was a great holiday. The hotel was clean, the staff were outstanding especially Regina who was very friendly and helpful and the food was great. The sea view rooms were great and I had the best night’s sleep I've had in years. Stuart the coach driver was a great chap who deserves lots of praise, he is a credit to Shearings. We also went to Goathland on the 840 Bus to Leeds, Pickering, Scarborough, Thornton Le Dale and Hemsley. Will definitely return again. :-)

Top Notch

Have just returned from a fantastic weekend at The Royal. Both my wife and I enjoyed our break very much. The hotel staff were very efficient and helpful. The meals, entertainment, room - in fact everything - was top notch. The hotel itself is very interesting and perfectly situated for the short walk into Whitby. Could not have been better. Well done.
