Stayed at the Norbreck in March. Breakfast good, evening meals ok without being memorable. Room was lovely and warm, staff were excellent.Entertainment very good, bar first class service. Top value for money .Would be happy to stay again

The best part of our holiday was our driver

Nice hotel, but the food was no better than school meals, this was by far the the worse food I have had having been to many of the Shearing hotels in the past 20 years. Tinned carrots with lamb , one brussel each with our chicken dinner about sums it up. The service in the dining room was rushed and very unpleasant. I wont be going back.

“Great holiday, even though the weather was freezing” Feb 2012

Just got back from our 5 day trip to freezing cold Scarborough!! Nothing freezing about our hotel though, it did drop cold in the night but it was about -8 outside, extra blankets were provided in case you needed them.First of all a great thank you to out drivers on the trip, especially Kevin for his and 2 other drivers leaving Whitby on a very snowy thursday afternoon, for their very safe driving on snowy roads. The hotel was clean and bright, the staff were great, very polite, and very helpful, the rooms were spotless, only problem was a little bit of wallpaper that wanted sticking down. The water was piping hot and the bathrooms had been refurbished with what looked like new equipment, lovely white towels etc.The food choice was excellent, could do with a few of the recipes myself, the staff in the dining room were very efficient and polite. The evening entertainment was also excellent, ALL were very very good, and everyone enjoyed the shows that were put on.For the price we paid, no complaints at all, if people want a 5 star holiday,i would suggest they try another place with 5 star prices ..Another great time with Shearings, many many thanks...

4 July 2012

best entertainment

hotel was clean, but needed a bit of a make-over. Food was ok, scrambled eggs awful at breakfast. The entertainment was brilliant, quiz, bingo and cabaret acts were the best of any shearings holiday we have been on. Coach journey was long but coach driver made up for it, very amusing.Defintely worth going on.

The Hotel and staff

The Hotel and staff were great, however what spoilt the vacation was when we found out the coach driver had locked in cruise control during a gale like rain storm on the way back to Wales..Had he never heard of Hydro Planing ?We shall think twice before riding on one of shearing Coaches again..

7 June 2012

Staff excellent especially Roger our coach driver.

The weather developed into a heatwave and added to the trips and scenery. On our free day we used our bus pass and visited Pickering which we enjoyed. The public areas of the hotel were very pleasant, the windows duel aspects in dining room steamed up through lack of ventilation every evening and views could not be enjoyed. We had cobwebs hanging from the ceiling in our bedroom, and the bedside lampshades were stained and broken.Sadly the food was a let down, breakfast was fine, but the evening meal e.g. fish with cabbage(cold) and two small boiled potatoes, cottage pie without mashed potato on top.We felt the meals were provided on a very tight budget and little imagination. We did complain to Reception as did many of our fellow travellers. We did overall enjoy our visit to Scarborough but were let down by the hotel's need for refurbishment. We have travelled with Shearings before, and this hotel did not meet our expectation,

Great holiday, value for money. Great views.

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent holiday finding the people of the area pleasant and efficient. Excursions were good with a knowledgable driver. The Norbreck Hotel needed a makeover but made up with a comfortable room and good food and service. Reception and bar staff were very obliging and everyone very pleasant.Evening entertainment was just right, bingo, great quiz and brilliant artists every night. We look forward to coming again.

31 May 2012

The hotel is very tired. Rooms are fine and the staff very polite and helpful. Evening entertainment was great. Compaints about the cold plates at dinner were immediately dealt with. Unfortunately whilst there, I was taken ill but staff on reception called me an ambulance and were caring. The hotel is spotlessly clean.

Good Value For Money

Had a very good break in March. We were lucky. The weather was beautiful, even on the beach!!!!!Our Coach Driver was fantastic a mine of information. The trips were well worth itDownside.....Norbreck in need of refurbishment but food and entertainment ok. You need to be fit as the Hotel is on the top of a hill but has good views across the baysJourney took too long with all the pick ups and drop offs

Lovely holiday !

The Norbreck is a very nice hotel positioned high on the cliff giving beautiful views over both bays. The hotel was clean and comfortable and food was very good. We enjoyed the excursions and had a free day to explore Scarborough. The staff as always were helpful and attentive. Can't beat Shearings for value for money!!!

Enjoyable January break

Coach journeys to & from Normanton and the drivers were good. Skilful backing up to the Norbreck Hotel! Our room was adequate and comfortable with a fine view across the South Bay. The staff were pleasant and helpful, meals were satisfactory. 2 evenings we had excellent entertainment, the other one middling. We thoroughly enjoyed our trips to York and Whitby via Goathland (we were glad we took that option, else we wouldn't have had long in Whitby). We were fortunate to have such fine, mild weather in January. On the return journey we would have preferred to have had the break somewhere other than York Designer Outlet, as the choice of places to eat and choice & standard of food was abysmal, although we did purchase a couple of items! But the holiday as a whole was most enjoyable.

It was well worth the cost involved

The coach journey and driver were excellent. He was full of interesting facts throughout the journeys and excursions. The hotel accommodation was average, but clean.Food was very good, substantial and hot.The only downside was the weather, but you can't have everything.

Still need help?
