What is Included?

  • Coach travel
  • Seven nights accommodation
  • Daily breakfast, seven evening meals
  • Three included excursions
  • Entertainment on some evenings

Thomas Hardy is considered one of England’s greatest novelists, and many of his most famous works were inspired by the stunning countryside find right here in England. The fictional region on Wessex that he set many of his novels was actually based on Dorset, where he was born and lived for much of his life. He also based the fictional town of Casterbridge in his novel ‘The Mayor of Casterbridge’ on the town of Dorchester.

Join us as we discover the amazing landscape that inspired Thomas Hardy all those years ago. We’ll take a scenic drive through ‘Thomas Hardy country’ - the towns and villages that he based many of his novels on. We’ll drive through Max Gate, Puddletown Forest and Tolpuddle, before visiting Wareham and Swanage.

After this, we’ll enjoy an excursion to discover some stunning scenery. We'll visit Charmouth and Dorchester, before making our way to West Bay, which is famous for being the setting for the recent ‘Broadchurch’ TV series. This stunning stretch of historical coastline is ideal for fossil hunting, or we can simply relax and enjoy the views.

Our final excursion will take us to Bennetts Water Gardens, where we’ll find beautiful collections of water lilies and other flowers and plants. In addition to this, we’ll be able to see a recreation of the well-known Japanese bridge at the gardens, which was constructed in honour of artist Claude Monet.

Some good included and optional tours. Restful place to stay.

The food was excellent and hot, served quickly and with a smile. The area is fairly quiet in the evenings so no disturbed nights from rowdy pubs or clubs. Plenty of buses going on different routes, although some are infrequent, and the train station nearby so easy to choose to go it alone if you don't want to join in one of the optional tours. The only drawback was the tiny washbasin in the hotel and you needed to be a contortionist to use it.
