Very good value

My wife and I have just returned from a 4 night break at theBroadway Park and have nothing but praise for everything to do with both the hotel and it's first class staff. The food was excellent in both variety and amount. Our room was spotless, very warm and comfy, the bathroom and shower were also spotless with lashings of very hot water. Our driver was extremely helpful with a first rate knowledge of the IOW. My only moan is on one of the trips we had to endure the monotony of the Waltzing Waters but hey 40 minutes out of 5 days I can live with that.

Excellent value. Good hotel with fantastic entertainment and staff

Brilliant that all the drivers (4 coaches) were I.O.W. residents so knew all the places to go to and gave us a good insight of the island. Hotel room was kept immaculately clean and the one small issue we had with the curtains was resolved within hours. Extremely comfortable beds, though apart from them the room furnishings were a little tired. Superb public rooms with a lovely Old Country House feel. By and large the quality of the food was excellent. The evening entertainment each night was varied and faultless. Our only criticism was that during the winter months (we went at the end of February) virtually all the tourist attractions are closed, which is surprising given that the I.O.W. is a 12 month of the year holiday destination and we saw many other coaches than just the 4 Shearing ones on our holiday. This was our first Shearings holiday and certainly won't be our last

An enjoyable trip with good food, pleasant accommodation, alas we had lousy weather.

We had a very enjoyable stay and appreciated the good food and pleasant accommodation. The staff were very friendly and the trips were excellent value. We had shocking weather for the entire duration, but cannot fault the hotel or its staff who worked hard on our behalf.

Had a good holiday but it was spoiled by the condition of our room

This is the third visit to Sandown with Shearings but it was no way as good as the first two.Staff, including the coach drivers, were friendly, courteous helpful and efficient in their work. Dinning room waiters/waitresses were great and we didn't have to wait for our meals. Meals were very good and variable Entertainment was good on two evenings but had no entertainment on the Sunday evening, but we entertained ourselves. The two things that let this visit to Broadway Park Hotel down on, were; 1) When I booked our holiday for our group, it stated all inclusive, there was no mention of vouchers until we got our travel documents. This did not spoil our holiday that much but I would of thought that as it was all inclusive on the advert we would have got at least an explanation why. 2) our ROOMS, as our friends room was also not up to standard. Our room had no central heating (it was March) but we had a portable oil filled heater (no apology) the carpet had cigarette burns and burns from what looked like electric irons. The bathroom had no shower but worst of all there were rust marks on pipe work and mould on the skirting board under the radiator. Our freinds room's carpet was much the same.We are going to try somewhere else next time.

Good company met at meals/evening the best part

Holiday was for wife`s birthday- hotel didnt produce the package pre booked. The driver was not the usual Shearing driver that we have experienced previous hols. Wife`s luggage damaged going out and smashed up on return trip. Compensation was agreed. The excursions were poor.

Nice food, entertainment quite good, shame about the room.

Our room was on the fourth floor, in need of a refurbishment, and not very clean. The worst though was the bathroom, very black around the taps and the shower did not work.

Brilliant Holiday

We had a brilliant time. The coach driver Jim was great. He kept us amused with his tales and was very knowledgable of the area. The hotel needs a bit of tlc however was clean and warm. Meals were excellent. Dont know how they serve so many with no waiting. The chef has a well run kitchen and dining room. All staff are very pleasant. We booked our second holiday as a mystery one. We ended up in Sandown again. Although we were a bit disapointed not to try another destination we had a brilliant time.

Good value if you don't mind a lot of hanging around at service stations

hotel lovely, room comfortable and warm, staff excellent but journey to and from resort interminable and grim, particularly the long waits at changeover points which customers are not properly warned about. However good value if you have plenty of time to waste. Sadly I don't.

THE HOLIDAY AND HOTEL WAS AN EXCELLENT CHOICE

YET AGAIN ANOTHER GREAT SHORT BREAK AWAY WITH MY NIECE! THE HOTEL ROOM WAS LARGE AND COMFORTABLE LOOKING OUT OVER WOODLAND. THE FOOD WAS ALWAYS HOT AND OF A HIGH STANDARD AND THE SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT BY OUR YOUNG POLISH WAITRESS NOTHING WAS TOO MUCH TROUBLE AND MY NIECES ORANGE JUICE WAS ON THE TABLE FOR HER AT EACH MEAL. THIS SERVICE WAS ABOVE WHAT I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED WELL DONE! THE ATMOSPHERE IN THE EVENINGS WAS RELAXING AND ENJOYABLE WITH GOOD ENTERTAINMENT. WITH THE EXCURSIONS,PEARL FACTORY AND THE ZOO THIS WAS THE PERFECT BREAK.

A quality hotel and staff

The hotel was easily up to the standard I expected. My single room was really generously proportioned with a lovely bathroom. The food choice was great and it all tasted lovely. The staff were very attentive and meals were served very quickly. The trips round the island were fascinating and informative. I really could not fault this holiday and was very impressed.

Apart from the weather we enjoyed ourselves

Hotel variable, shabby in places, excellent in others. Food quite good, but nothing special. Weather was appalling so put a bit of a dampner on it, but the excursion was good, and we enjoyed finding our way by public transport to Carrisbrooke Castle on the Sunday.Entertainment average, a bit lengthy and amateurish at times, however all together we enjoyed oursleves.

Superb Area

Another trip with Shearings and it is well organized, find it hard to think anyone could better them.First i have to say what an excellent driver we had called Paul he lived on the island and really loved the area, if you get him you are in for a treat.Knows his stuff, with out going over the top and puts it over well. The hotel no problems, like with them all just needs a little bit more of tender loving care.Food ok but a bit tight on the portions of soup. (bit extra would not hurt looks a measly portion in the dish)Entertainment, well it was Saturday night that did it for us two singers and a dance troop absolutely superb girls.Worked their socks off well done, the girls were new to singing but did really well. There is just one area i would say could be improved and that is the quality of staff behind the bar.Tend to have a lot of overseas workers and their customer skills are some what lacking at times, needs to be improved.Over all we would visit again with Shearings, nice island and surrounding area.Just to finish employee of the month must go to Paul, made our visit special. Cheers.

Overall the holiday was good value.

Overall the holiday was good value for money. It was central to Sandown from where you could get a bus to other places of interest. The hotel in general was not bad although a little tired in places. Our room was light, clean and quite roomy, but furniture was rather dated and worn out. We had to ask for our headboard to be replaced as it had a large hole in it when we arrived and looked awful. The water was very hit miss in the bathroom. When in the middle of a shower it would just stop. Very frustrating when covered in soap or trying to wash your hair. The quality of the food was good and the hotel was warm.

mixed feelings

hotel very tired food ok best thing all staff helpful and friendly.we caught sickness and diarrhoea bug from another passenger on the coach other passengers went down with it as well. we had to stay another day as I was not fit for travel. The manager did not charge us for the extra night which was very kind but of course that meant we had to make our own way home taxi from hotel and ferry family had to drive down to pick us up.trips were not great the day one took us to Yarmouth over lunchtime but there was little to look at.second trip was to Rhyde was nice. entertainment average.

Very enjoyable holiday in Sandown

From joining our pick-up point to returning home, everything was very relaxing and well organised. Our coach driver was excellent, and as he lived on the Isle of Wight knew a great deal about the Island. The trips out from the hotel were excellent. The hotel is a lovely building in its own grounds - so no road traffic noise at all. The unfortunate thing from our point of view is that it was quite a walk to the sea front, bearing in mind my husband and I both have limited walking, so apart from the coach trips we were rather marooned! Food good - typical Shearings - but staff could do with slowing down a little when serving meals - we dont all want to be in and out in 10 minutes,Overall, an excellent holiday at very reasonable price. Thanks Shearings!

A good time was had by all.

We, that is my husband and myself, recently traveled with Shearings Travel to Sandown, Isle of Wight. We have traveled with many travel/coach companies in our timer from the best to I'm afraid to say the worst. Your company we have to say is one of the best. We feel though that some of your staff need to be singled out for special attention so, we'll name names. The driver on the Sandown run 'Jim', I'm afraid if we were given a surname I've forgotten it, was exceptional. He was informative, very friendly, very well mannered and knowledgeable about the area, so very well done Jim. The other member of staff who should be mentioned is Marta, who worked in the dining room at the Broadway Park Hotel. Talk about efficiency tempered with friendliness, nothing was too much trouble either for us or anyone else on or around her station. The changeover we thought was handled very smoothly.

excellent value for money holiday!

The hotel looks impressive in its own grounds, tucked away at the end of a cul de sac, just off the main road through Sandown. A short walk to the main road and you find bus stops going to all locations on the island. The staff couldnt have been more helpful, especiially our waiter, who made sure we were catered for swiftly and efficiently. The food was fine, and there was plently of it. If I was picky, I would say its the same menu you get in most of the group's hotels, but that doesnt mean it wasnt good. My bedroom was clean, tidy and comfortable, and well looked after by the staff. The entertainment was well up to the standard I have come to expect - excellent. I went looking for a relaxing break, and wasnt disappointed.Would definately go back

GREAT PLACE TO VISIT

We had a lovely time in Sandown. The Hotel was a little way out from the sea front, and pretty hilly, so definitely not for the faint-hearted. The weather was the best the UK had seen this year and, once at the beach, there is a lovely path right into Shanklin - well worth a visit and much more picturesque than Sandown. The excursions into Yarmouth and Ryde were a welcome break from the hotel, which itself was very quiet during the day. The evening entertainment wasn't up to much unfortunately, until our final night when a comedian/singer restored our faith in the word "entertainment". The remarks about the four vouchers per guest per day for drinks upset us but we coped!!!

GOOD BREAK AWAY IN JANUARY

Following our long journey from Blackpool we were pleasantly surprised with our accommodation. The food and drink were excellent and we particularly welcomed the free evening drinks. The room was adequate, quiet and comfortable and the staff helpful, especially our waitress, Magda who was truly exceptional. The only downside to the holiday was our driver, Paul, who seemed reticent to tell us anything about the island. We were disappointed that even though we spent 1.5hrs in Yarmouth he didn't take us to The Needles. We made our own arrangements and went there on the bus the following day. We have travelled the world and always been appreciative of the hard work the driver and courier. Invariably we have been very happy to leave an appropriate tip. For the first time in all our travels this driver wasn't tipped. This aside, we found the holiday excellent value and would recommend it unreservedly. Well done Shearings.

Excellent value for money break.

We went on the 4 night trip in February 2012 and whilst it was very cold and there wasn't a lot going on on the island at that time of year, we had a lovely relaxing break. The hotel was clean and comfortable and the bedroom and bathroom were fine. Beds comfy, room warm, ample storage space. We had no complaints whatsoever with the food which was plentiful and there was a good choice. We were served by a lovely Polish waitress called Marta who couldn't do enough for us.There were no restrictions on the amount of drinks requested at the bar and all the spirits were branded.Entertainment was ok.For what we paid it was very good value and I would recommend it to others.

This holiday has very good excursions and the hotel was very comfortable and inviting.

From the start of the journey to the departure, everything was very good, The coach trip was comfortable and on god time. The hotel was very nice, but quite dated and it could do with a bit of refurbishment. The staff were very polite and helpful. The food was pretty good and there was plenty of it. We loved the free drinks from the bar in the evening and enjoyed the entertainment. The excursions we went on were very enjoyable and informative, especially the banter from the coach driver; who was extremely helpful. All round, we had a very good holiday and would certainly do this again. Well done Shearings.

A nice break

Went in January - not best time of year as first excursion, scenic trip, was seriously marred by fog/mist.Hotel was clean and tidy but somewhat tired in appearance. Staff were friendly and helpful and food, whilst standard fare, was of a good standard.Would obviously been better with a bit of sun to brighten things up.We went "all included" and I must say the new arrangements of vouchers just introduced appear very much far less attractive.
