Lincolnshire is one of the most beautiful and varied counties of England. From the rolling hills and tiny villages of the Lincolnshire Wolds, award winning beaches of the ever popular coastal resorts and historical interest of the city of Lincoln with its castle and cathedral there is something for everyone.
Lincoln is one of the most important cities in the East Midlands, along with Nottingham, Leicester and Derby. The region is one of the biggest in the country and extends from the Peak District right down to Peterborough which borders East Anglia.
The city of Lincoln is home to the famous twin spire cathedral and castle. Built after the conquest on the orders of William I, these two magnificent examples of Norman architecture are two of Lincoln’s most famous monuments and are set nicely in contrast with the redeveloped city centre. The Lincolnshire Fens surround the city and the flatness of the area means that the straight roads and waterways provide a unique countryside setting.
Outside of Lincoln, you can visit some of the many stately homes, castles, gardens and historical sites of the East Midlands. Popular locations include the famous Bomber country that centres on RAF Coningsby and is home to the Battle of Britain Memorial Centre, Chatsworth estate, Belton House and Woburn Abbey.
In the south of the region, Huntingdon and Cambridge are two of the most historical places in the East Midlands. In Cambridge, there is a wealth of architectural styles, courtyards and bridges that line the River Cam for you to see in the world famous University City.
