About Torbay Hotel

Lying in a region often referred to as the 'English Riviera' because of its mild climate, bright blue waters and semi-tropical flora, Torquay is well-renowned for its cosmopolitan atmosphere. Reflecting the resort's lively style, the attractive Torbay Hotel, standing in an impressive position on the level seafront, overlooking the marina and Princess Gardens, is in a superb location. Offering all the comforts of home (and more), with a stylish lounge bar, sun terrace, indoor swimming pool and entertainment room in which to meet new friends, there's plenty to amuse. With the beach, Princess Theatre, harbour and town centre shops lying just a few minutes walk away, there's plenty to interest you out-of-doors too!

The Torbay Hotel has a limited amount of car parking spaces available in a secure car park a short distance from the hotel, these can be reserved at £5.00 per day.  On arrival pull up in the loading bay (parking in the yellow bus bays is an offence) to un-load your luggage, and collect your parking pass if purchased. We recommend that one person stays with the car. There is also a public car park nearby, charges apply

Lovely Weekend

Our second time at this hotel and even better than last. Location superb, staff friendly and food good. Self-drive, so parked the car used excellent bus service and ferry. Lovely refurbished room with sea view, paid extra but worth it. Will definitely return to this hotel.

Lovely Break

We have just spent an enjoyable 5 days in this hotel, the room was large, clean and the bed very comfortable, although the ceilings and windows could do with painting. We were at the rear of the hotel, so not a brilliant view, but lovely and peaceful. Our driver Chris was very informative, cheerful and friendly. The local buses stopped outside the hotel, so easy to get to Brixham or Paignton.

Great Deal

This is a lovely hotel in a great location. The service is excellent, the staff very friendly and the rooms clean and comfortable. The choice of menu is very good (especially the chef's specials) It's a great base to explore the surrounding area and the town itself is relaxed and friendly. This is a great deal for the price.

Fantastic, Elegant and Friendly

Best location in Torquay, great value for money, excellent food, staff, rooms, what more can we say...Amazing!! This is our 5th Bay Stay this year, and was slightly dubious of this hotel after reading some trip advisor reviews...but try it for yourself and ignore the negative comments, they are sad people just nit-picking. We have pretty high standards and for £99 for 3 nights half board we were very impressed. Our trainee waiter( DAVID)was the best we have ever met in 30 years! Hold on to him!

Very Cold

Sat close to the door in the dining room with door left open, it was very cold and drafty, food went cold too quick, we did complain, but was told the door had to stay open. The whole of the downstairs was cold with doors open at all times sat in a wind tunnel, due to air conditioning as told by the bar man it was too hot last week! Car Park was too far away as on booking we were told it was just a few minutes away, more like 20 minutes.

Very noisy

I took my mum to Torquay to catch with relatives and the hotel was on the whole OK. I had upgraded to a sea view, but the 1st floor does not give a sea view! Tops of the masts in the harbour at best. They were putting up the wheel (like London eye) right outside, so no view. The worst was the noise from the constant traffic right outside the hotel. At night the boy racers would tear along and sleep was difficult. Coach driver was very good and buses fantastic. Shame about the view.

Restaurant Manager

Holiday spoilt by rudeness of restaurant manager, asked for another table as no room to sit, was moved with a huff and puff then ignored during meal times having to ask to be served all meal times, he stood by us folding serviettes ignoring us, he treats guests like sheep expects them to do what they told, needs some training in manners. Our room was clean and the food was nice such shame restaurant not run better need to improve.

Torbay Hotel

Rooms are very 70s in need of updating unless you pay for premier or superior rooms, had a sea view room on the front but a lot of noise off the traffic, food and staff very good but hotel is ready for a revamp, not the best hotel in Torquay, don't think we will use Shearings hotels again.

Torbay Hotel

Worst hotel we have ever stayed in over 30 years. We were put on the top floor, and had to endure a room, that every time you moved the floorboards creaked loudly, which also included the hallway, it was hell, we never slept more than one hour. All the manager said was well we never get complaints. Lucky for us we were self drive, and left for home early. After complaining, on the 4th Feb 2013, over 3 months later we were given a £50 gift voucher, to be used for future hols.

As room was at the back of the building. Steve the entertainment was first class. Food very good and waiters we found very helpful. Thinking of returning again for the third year Keep up the good work Torbay Hotel.

Superb location but cold

Just returned from a 5 day break having taking my mum to Torquay for a short break. The Hotel is in a superb location for shops and buses and flat for walking. I upgraded the room to a sea view and the room was lovely however..... The hotel was cold, needed to ask staff to turn over the TV wouldn't allow guests to be trusted with the remote control and food quite basic. Staff in the dining room were excellent and could not be faulted. Should have been warmer I ended up leaving with a cold!

A greak break

Stayed for a five day bay inclusive break, and could not fault one thing about the holiday. Had a front facing room which was kept very clean by Jane. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Bar staff were excellent as were the dining room staff. Had a great Birthday break with good entertainment, especially guest artist Paris, a fantastic singer. Shall definitely be going back, sooner rather than later.

Assistance

We visited friends staying at Torbay Hotel. My husband is disabled. There is a parking problem at the hotel but the staff were wonderful. They found us a parking place next to the hotel. The reception were efficient and polite. A credit to the hotel Thanks so much

Great Hotel

2nd stay within a month. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay again. Great position on the sea front. Bus stops in both directions right outside of the hotel. Good food, friendly staff, clean hotel. Be back in the spring. Very close to the shopping centre of Torquay. Easy access to and from Exeter and all the coastal towns, Brixham, Dawlish, Totnes, and the Moors, etc. Will I go again? you bet, can’t wait for the spring!

Torbay Hotel

Lovely Hotel, in very good position on the sea front. Clean, comfortable room, bit of a walk from lift. Good food with friendly hard working staff. Small bar, again with friendly and helpful staff. Good entertainment with a tribute night of Nat King Cole. Hotel clean and comfortable but a bit too warm for my liking. Enjoyable stay, would definitively stay here again or any other Shearings Hotel. Well done to all the staff, well looked after. Despite being disabled the ground floor had good access.
