5 day break

My friend and I travelled with Shearings for the 1st time and were extremely happy with it all. Chris the driver was superb, so helpful, knowledgeable and funny, an extremely super person. The hotel was lovely, clean, and adequate, the food was excellent. Our waiter, Peter was so helpful and polite a truly lovely man. My one concern with the hotel was the lift, really think it needs up grading to a more modern one, did not feel happy in it and had to use it due to my friends asthma would return

Short Break

First short break with Shearings. Very good driver with plenty of information on all our travels. The hotel is in an excellent position. We stayed in room 303 which had no shower or hair dryer also needed some net curtaining on the window (anyone could see in), we did get a plastic jug sent up so we could wash our hair! This room not recommended. Food ok, staff polite and good. Hotel tired looking. Would I go again? probably but would make sure we had the right room.

Short Break Great Holiday

We had yet again another great holiday with Shearings. Hotel was very good, food excellent, manager and staff extremely helpful. Stayed in room 108 which was spacious clean and had lovely sea view. St Ives was a very pretty place and the driver Eddie was very good and had a very good knowledge about all areas visited. Would definitely return to this Hotel again many thanks.

Short Break

We travelled with Shearings first time we have booked with them plenty of leg room in coach. But not impressed with driver not very chatty spoke very quietly and non English. Otherwise hotel was good. Very clean. Food good. Particularly breakfasts. One complaint (although it’s a old hotel) was the squeaking and creaking floor boards it’s all you could hear at night when you are trying to sleep ,so although bed was comfortable did not sleep very well.

Beautiful views

Our holiday was very good, (food, room, staff etc) but were surprised that the brochure gave no indication of the amount of steps inside the hotel, making it difficult for people with disabilities to get around. I was surprised that there was NO wheelchair access also. We enjoyed the short break in spite of this.

What a Great Holiday

What a great holiday we had with Shearing. From the moment been picked up to the moment of return. The staff on the coaches and at the hotel were top class. Nothing was too much trouble. The room and food was great value. In fact the holiday was worth every penny. I would recommend this type of holidays to any one of all ages. Thanks to all in St Ives.

A Good Weekend

We left Stockport early Friday and returned Monday. We stayed at the Bay, the food was good the staff were very good. Room a bit basic but comfortable and a bit cold you need a blanket on the bed and the shower/ bath is poor room 316, you have to wait quite a while for the hot water. :-) Don't worry about the noisy lift just hold on to each tight. We enjoyed it very much value for money and St Ives was wonderful and buy your pasties from the bakery near Post Office they are wonderful

This was our first time with Shearings and we found the Holiday very enjoyable, in particular our driver Chris who we liked very much was very informative and very experienced driver whose knowledge of Cornwall was second to none. The food at the Hotel was always hot and varied and all staff were helpful and polite. The decor of the hotel is very tired and needs updating, however this did not spoil our holiday and would recommend St Ives as a lovely place to visit. Thank you Shearings.

St Ives is a beautiful place, the hotel is local to all amenities, staff very helpful and friendly, evening entertainment basic but good, and the best was the free drinks at the bar in the evening. Would highly recommend this place, except very steep hills to climb, not good if your mobility is limited, but excellent place to visit.

Inviting Hotel

We have just returned from an excellent 3 day break over the new year. Hotel warm and inviting as were all the staff. The entertainment programme was of a professional standard with different turns each night. Room most spacious and clean even though we were at the back. The shower room needed a little updating but that sort of thing does not bother us too much. Our only gripe (and there is always one.) The cheese served on New Year’s Eve was described as Blue Stilton. We doubted that it was.

Lovely Holiday Fantastic Value for Money

We had a wonderful view over Porthminster beach. The room was larger than we expected, clean, warm, comfortable, en-suite with bath/shower. All the hotel staff were friendly and courteous. Our waitress, Ning, was very efficient and helpful nothing was too much trouble for her. Three coaches arrived at the same time and the hotel management and staff dealt with the situation very efficiently. Pat our driver was brilliant, he had a great sense of humour. Well worth the money we'll be book again.

Lovely Location - Breath of Fresh Air!

The careful driver stopped for several breaks, so it was just after 7:30pm when the coach arrived at St Ives Bay, an unpretentious, informal hotel, with gorgeous views from the front windows. We had two optional trips to Falmouth (half day) and to Land's End (£7.50p extra). St Ives had lots of small galleries and craft shops. Tate St Ives, Hepworth's Garden and The Rock were each worth the hilly walk, a chance to absorb unique views in an unspoilt setting. Recommended, if mobile and no major health issues.

Halfway to Heaven

We have use Shearings for many holidays but this was so different, we booked for a North East special, but drove ourselves which meant we had 8 days as the coaches did not arrive until 5:30pm. The staff were so obliging in all departments, the food was as expected and this time we took advantage of the free and oligarchy trips as the hedges in Cornwall are high and not much vision for car drivers. We met some very interesting people who had achieved so much in life.

A Great Holiday!

Read the other reviews before booking, and they were all accurate. Room’s clean and comfortable, staff polite and courteous. The waitress we had was new, but still quick and efficient. The food was excellent and always hot. We had some lovely trips out, all with the safe and extremely knowledgeable Chris who gave us a recipe for pasties! We can see why some of the other guests have been several times! Really glad we paid the extra for a seaview, it was well worth it.

Still need help?
