Almost 5 star

Worst weather EVER, had on a Shearing trip, hotel itself in the middle of being done up, our room was very small cut my toe on the bed as there’s not much room, to move about, beware of getting out of the shower as there’s lest 8 inches drop, which l think could be dangerous to older folk, Food wise is above standard and service is first class, entertainment was ok , girl singer was good, really Shearing needs all round entertainers, 4 drinks fair enough, but SHOULD be open bar, free soft drinks.

Nice Friendly Hotel

Had a mid week break here at the beginning of February. Higgledy-pigglety hotel (which added to its charm) Friendly staff, nice, hot food, compact but clean bedroom (it's only for sleeping in at the end of the day), best entertainment at a Shearings Hotel so far. Nice days out but I wouldn't return here again, hotel was great but Paignton and the surrounding area wasn't for me :(

Very Pleased

Well we wrote on this page on August 1/12 about our holiday at the esplanade had a great time there in August. Went back for new year had a great time that was until 1.1.13 we are now going back again on the first of march hopefully for a week looking forward to it very much we know we are going to have a good time.

Splendid

We recently went to the Esplanade Hotel for a long weekend with our dance club, the staff were very helpful, the manageress was on the ball, staff even waved us off when we departed, food was excellent. It was obvious there had been work done, only one complaint our bathroom was very compact bend down to brush your teeth and the door opens.

Dancing Break

Just returned from weekend break with our dancing club, Bathroom was on the small side, but apart from that everything was excellent, Food and service was excellent, credit to the manager, it was restored my faith in Shearings.

Really good hotel had a great holiday. Staff can't do enough to help you. Meals no complaints. Recommend a sea view room. Entertainment good no need to go out of hotel. Will certainly book with Shearings again, coach drivers really informative about surrounding areas.

Group Holiday

Just returned from taking a group of 130 dancers for the weekend break. Excellent food, great entertainment, friendly staff, drinks vouchers for Saturday night, two trips and coach travel all for £119 what a great value for money hotel. Lee (the entertainment host) adjusted his programme to suite our groups needs. Some bedrooms have been upgraded and the hotel was warm throughout. One of the best group holidays we have done with Shearings and we have done quite a lot.

Disability

Staff were excellent Service and Staff support and help excellent it is just a pity that Thomas Cook told me the Hotel was wheelchair friendly when it is definitely not. The main lift is long term "out of order". If you are disabled avoid this hotel.

Very good hotel been there many time

we are driving back there again on 31st aug really looking forward to 7 night there staff are very good and very helpful nothing is too much trouble for them as I am disabled but well looked after some of the rooms are a bit small but you are not in them for long. My wife and I know we have not had this holiday yet but we know we are going to be looked after by the staff and really good food so we do not have to say what we have had but what we are going to look forward to can’t wait. Very pleasant stay

Had an enjoyable four night stay with Shearings in March 2012. Hotel in a very good location, a short walk into Paignton centre. Room was fairly small but fine. The bathroom and shower cubicle were very small. There was a large step into the shower and I had difficulty getting in (I'm disabled), luckily there was a grab rail to pull myself in. I still managed a shower every night so not a big deal. Staff and food were excellent. Decent entertainment. Would definitely go back.

Thanks

We have had a Mon.-Fri. all inclusive break and what a great time we had. The staff were so helpful, as a disabled person, all my needs were catered for, the food was brilliant and we were made to feel at home. We have stayed in most of the hotels in this group, and found the Esplanade to be one of the best, good parking too as we went in our own car. Thanks again to all the staff.

Memories

I worked at the Tarbet Hotel for a year as the deputy manager and found it quite unique. The challenges and rewards were many and the people there wonderful. I'm glad the upgrades have taken place as the beautiful area deserves it. I miss many things about the old castle and the land of horizontal rain.

We have just come home from the Paignton hotel and would like to thank all the staff at the hotel for a helping to make our stay a happy one. The only fault we would say the rooms are very small bathrooms would not suite everyone as they could have trouble getting out of the shower. The entertainment was great and we would go back again.

Thank you for a good refreshing holiday

My wife and myself recently stayed here, we have been in a number of Shearings hotels, but we found this one really relaxing and very friendly, the staff were brilliant, food was really good with good variety, the bedroom was a little bit tired and needs uplifting, but very comfortable, excellent value for money we will be back and would highly recommend it.

Nice Short Break

Emailing on behalf of our group of 5 to say how much we enjoyed the holiday. Good location for visiting other places of interest. Excellent staff who were courteous, attentive and cheerful, nothing was too much trouble. Great entertainment every night to a very high standard. Must also mention our coach driver Roy who was very knowledgeable and kept us informed of local history and landmarks during the trips out. He was a great character who was always friendly and cheerful. Top marks!

Great Holiday

Had a lovely holiday first time to this hotel and had read very differing reviews of it so did not know what to expect. The staff were excellent, friendly and genuinely cared that guests enjoyed their holiday. There is a very good choice of menu including vegetarian dishes. It made a change to be offered this rather asking each meal time for a vegetarian option like a lot of hotels I have stayed at before. The room was small but clean and fresh towels each day. Sea view and convenient for town centre.

Thank you for a pleasant stay

Thank you for a lovely stay at your hotel. All four of us stayed from 8th to 10th July and we had a fantastic time. We were treated like God's and the staff were so helpful and polite and nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel was so very clean and fresh and everything was spotless. The food was of very high quality, plentiful and was cooked to perfection. Our thanks to Tim the chef and all those in the kitchen who made it possible. The entertainment was very good both nights and something we did not expect at all. Our rooms were a bit small but clean and comfortable but the only thing we were not happy with was the very cramped bathroom. You could not swing a cat in there. We have seen bigger broom cupboards! I understand that this is a common feature at this hotel as it was converted from a Victorian hotel and part of each room was lost for the addition of the very small bathroom. Still you only spend but a short time there so this is but a minor niggle. We would certainly come back. All the criticism about this hotel seems well over the top and totally unfair. Well done to you all and top marks for everything, bathroom excepted!

Thank You

We had a wonderful New Year’s Eve break here. The welcome was warm, as was the temperature in the hotel. The entertainment was great, despite the reluctance of some of the guests to join in, but you always get them! The food was fantastic and so were the staff. We will definitely return.
