About Dilkhusa Grand Hotel

Ilfracombe is a restful resort with an ancient harbour, flower decked promenade and narrow streets lined with shops and cafes. Ilfracombe holidays in the summer see this quiet resort burst into life with pleasure craft sailing into the harbour. One of the most popular hotels in Ilfracombe, the Dilkhusa Grand Hotel is just a few minutes' walk from the town centre and harbour. Just over the road you can find the colourful Runnymede Gardens and the new Landmark entertainment centre with its theatre, cinema and Winter Gardens. Our Ilfracombe hotel’s décor offers a sense of traditional elegance amongst the hotel’s smart public rooms, which include the entertainment room, where dancing is always popular, spacious restaurant, and a games lounge and bar which is perfect to rest in after a fun-filled day spent sightseeing.

This hotel only has a limited amount of parking spaces, these can be reserved at £5.00 per day. A limited amount of on street parking is sometimes available opposite the hotel. There is also a public car park, a short distance away, charges apply.

Value for money

The hotel was old and interesting, Bedroom clean with change of towels each day. Free drinks are a great bonus, staff where all lovely and friendly. They had all the good food, but it wasn't cooked well, potatoes burned, veg hard and dry and watery soup. Breakfast was good, full English, but fruit juices where watery. The dining room was cold. The entertainment was good and the coach was very comfortable. The trip to Atlantic Shopping Village was a waste of time, 2 full hours at an Asda complex.

First time in Shearings Hotel

Good points - room very clean and warm, staff were lovely and very hard working, entertainment was excellent, good value for money (especially all inclusive option). Food was ok but tinned veg a letdown, meat portions were very small we had roast loin of pork one night 2 slices on our plate as thin as bacon rashers!! (Tasty though). Finally only 1 lift in the hotel, holding a max of 4 people and it did break down for a couple of hours one day. But on the whole good value for money.

Freezing Room

Have just returned after 5 days stay. The rooms badly need updating but are very clean. Have never been so cold in a hotel room. I asked for extra heat but was told none available was given 2 blankets .lots of other guests complaining. The upside is the staff are fantastic especially Zoe in the dining room and the bar staff ,entertainment was great food good choice well cooked ,would go back but only in the summer!

Enjoyable and relaxing

Having read some earlier reports we were unsure what to expect but like most holidays we have done with Shearings, the food and accommodation were once again excellent. Staff were helpful and couldn’t make you any happier and those that did have a problem had it resolved instantly. Entertainment excellent. Only comment is the Manager was not seen until the last day which was unusual for a Shearings Hotel but we will return in summer hopefully.

New Year Break

Stayed for first time with Shearings , have to say my wife and I both enjoyed our stay , the hotel was very clean our room was spot on and very clean and very well looked after by the cleaners for the 3 days we where there , the food was very good and there was plenty of it , and the waiting on staff where very good and very helpful, the bar staff and entertainment was excellent, we will be returning and would recommend the hotel to our friends , the coach driver Nigel was very helpfully.

Relaxing

Had no problems with the room at all clean and food hot and basic enjoyable, entertainment was good but most important the staff where friendly and welcomed you. Would go back again

Cant wait to visit again

Have to disagree with some guests remarks about cleanliness. My en-suite single room was spotless as was the whole hotel that I saw. All staff very friendly and hard-working. Food was very satisfactory. Look forward to once again visiting this excellent hotel.

Great Stay

Despite being unwell first class management and staff couldn't do enough to look after me, very many thanks. Good quality en suite single room. Decent restaurant over-looking pleasant park. Good access at the rear of the hotel. Bus stops immediately outside in both directions. Hotel just a short walk from town centre with bus station offering services to most of the north coast including very pleasant ride to Lynmouth. Only went for 4 days, not long enough - 7 next time. Excellent entertainment.

Hotel in need of upgrade .room not clean enough for hotel rating. Food was poor most evenings. The staff in every department were very good Jon in charge of entertainment was very good as were the acts every night.

Friendly Hotel

Hotel in need of a major upgrade, rooms small therefore poor storage space and lack of shelves, it must be said that the staff are first class and will do anything they can to help, food also very good. Entertainment first class as was the staff in charge of the entertainment.

Who could ask for more?

If you thought good old fashioned customer service had bit the dust then you could no better than visit The Happy House of Dilkhusa Grand to restore your faith -This hotel must surely be the flagship for Shearings as it exceeds all expectations of customer service. Pleasant and friendly and welcoming to all. To say the staff go the extra mile would be an understatement! If Shearings do customer service awards then I hope every one of the staff there get one every year because they deserve it! Top*

Well run friendly hotel - good break away

We have just returned from a 5 day break with Shearings, and I must say we thoroughly enjoyed it. It was just such a shame that my husband was unwell or it would have been just perfect. Karen on Reception could not have been more helpful or obliging when I asked if there was a walk in NHS place, she got us a doctor’s appointment within the hour and phoned for a cab for us. The next day when I told her my husband was having to stay in bed she offered to have food sent up to him, he didn't eat that day but the offer was very much appreciated. The entertainment was very good especially on the Wednesday night. The food was very nice plenty of it and the service was quick and efficient. If I was to have to find a fault I would just say the bathroom was a bit small and there was not much room to put anything. Apart from that we would certainly go again. Also must just say what a lovely friendly place Illfracombe is, I bet it is perfect in the summer months. So thanks and well done to all the friendly staff at the Dilkhusa Grand Hotel.

Will Return

This hotel is old and can do with an upgrade in furniture, but the main thing it was clean and my single room was spacious with a separate shower room to the toilet. The entertainment was 1st class and the host, Mike, is the best I have seen in any of the Shearing’s hotels. He was always on the go and gives you all the info you need. Excellent entertainer, good singer and good jokes, never stopped working. I give him 10 out of 10. Also, the bar staff are friendly.
