Hotel right on sea front within walking distance to Exmouth. Very pleasantly situated for walking and buses pass the hotel.

This hotel has fairly recently been re-furbished, the public rooms are very nice as was the part of the hotel we stayed in. The part still waiting for bringing up-to-date didn't look so nice. We had a twin room which was adequate, comfortable beds, furniture reasonably modern, lighting as usual was poor. Bathroom could have done with a bit of up-dating but not too bad. Beware the temperature of the water when using the shower - boiling one second freezing the next. Be prepared to hop to the end of the bath until the water sorts itself out! Generally this is a good Shearings hotel. The food was well cooked but quite boring. All the hotel staff were friendly and the service good. Our driver Graham was very good.

Better when the hotel is up-dated.

It must be said that Shearings give excellent value for money. The hotel was being refurbished and consequently there were a few things that were required to bring it up to a good standard. The room was rather small, but acceptable, but unfortunately the TV didn`t work. Even on holiday, most people like to keep up with the news, or even soaps. The journey and all outings were excellent.

Fabulous Hotel. The town of Exmouth also was very good.

The hotel is by far the best Shearings hotel for style and staffing. Given that we are very impressed with Shearings this is a high accolade from us.The complete holiday was excellent as pewr usual but thanks to the hotel thisd is by far the best we have been on.

very evjoyable break, hotel needs a little T L C

Location very good, food, choices good and on the whole not bad at all. trips were good, enjoyed Exeter very much. The room was clean and the service given very good, but the room was in quite a poor state, there was quite a lot of work being done at the hotel so this may be being addressed. Still a nice holiday giving good value for money and we recommend it highly.*we had delays at the intercange on both outward and awaiting our shuttle bus return (40 mins after every other tour outbound)

The holiday has its good points and bad

The entertainment, trips and location were great and the drivers were also very good. The hotel itself needed updating badly. Our room was very tatty and looked onyo a wall it was quite cold as the radiator only ever got warm never hot. The bathroom was a disgrace not at all up to usual shearings standards. Then there was the food, breakfast wasnt too bad but dinner was lacking in imagination and quality. This was our third shearings trip and a bit of a let down.

3rd visit to The Grand at Exmouth.

We like Exmouth itself and also the surrounding resorts, particularly Sidmouth. The hotel was good and the food very acceptable. We thought the breakfast times were a bit inflexible as we would have preferred 10am as the cut off time. Some rooms are brighter than others, but on the whole mainly quite comfortable. Always meet some nice people when we go there and the staff are very good. Dont like Shearings Normanton Interchange - you can waste lots of time there and then the driver hurries you at the scheduled stops. Otherwise, quite OK

The holiday was fantastic value for money

The hotel whilst a little tired was clean, the food was OK, and the hotels entertainment was good. This tour was good value for money, and was only let down by chaos at the interchange at Warrington.

Great value for money as always :-)

I visited last November but Shearings have asked me for a review as they've now added the facility :-)My friend and I enjoyed a fantastic 5 day all-inclusive Shearings break and were absolutely delighted with everything. Reception staff at the hotel were great, restaurant staff were so quick, pleasant and efficient, food was delicious and entertainment probably the best I've experienced at 5 different Shearings hotels (and all have been good).I don't spend my time scrutinising my room for silly little things to criticise. Having paid £202 (which included £10 single room supplement) for 4 nights half board with great food, nightly entertainment, a day and a half of excursions conducted by a lovely, informative driver (Ray) and free drinks, I'd say Shearings provide the best possible value holidays and The Grand Hotel, Exmouth is a credit to the Company.Thank you to everyone involved and I hope to visit again one day for a similar holiday.

Value for money

The holiday on the whole was good. However, the bedrooms were very old and tatty. By no means spotlessly clean. No shower - the attachment supplied did not fit the taps. All the staff were very helpful and pleasant. Our waitress in particular was very efficient. Entertainment was probably the best feature of the holiday. The drinks voucher scheme also proved very popular. The excursions were also well organised. Overall, you get what you pay for. Sadly, we would not be recommending this hotel to anyone because of the state of the rooms, fixtures and fittings.

Good holiday excellent value for the price!!!!!!!!!

This hotel is going through refurbishment and the areas that have been done are very good. The entertainment was excellent and the staff very helpful. The meals could have been slighty better but it did not detract us form having a good holiday. The excursions were very good although a full day to Exeter would have been better as a majority of us came back on the local bus. The trip to Princetown was also a bit of a let down as everything was closed bar the cafe that the coach drivers are obviously paid to visit. There is the lovely town of Sidmouth close by which would have made a better trip as many caught the local bus to visit this town on the free day. We met some really nice people on this trip and they made the holiday so much better.Have definately reccommended this holiday to friends!!!!

A good value for money short break

Hotel a little bit dated in places. One lift noisy and needed some effort to manually open the gates. If refurbishment is contemplated it is hoped that a more modern lift can be installed. Excursions were good and not too taxing. Hotel food was satisfactory and always served expeditiously. Entertainment in the evening consisted of bingo plus a quiz and then a cabaret.Very good value for money.

This holiday is good. We have actually done this same holiday twice before. The food is the usual Shearing standard.

The room we were allocated was small and looked out on the back yard. When we asked, there was no other room available without paying extra. The concert room was not big enough to accommodate all the guests who wished to enjoy the entertainment but the bar is in this room which means a climb up to the ground floor to find available seating carrying drinks.

An excellent five day break worth a revisit

A good hotel in a sea front location, close to the town centre and bus station , just ten to fifteen minutes walk away.We found the staff efficient, cheerful, and helpful. No problem food wise. The English weather was atrcious at times but plenty to do on the good trips out.Definately worth a revisit.

Value for money holiday but...........

This was an all inclusive value for money holiday with excellent included excursions. Hotel entertainment also very good but the standard of hotel food was considered by our party of four to be of poor standard and quality. Needs to improve before a return visit will be considered.

excellant holiday superbly situated hotel great excursions.

The hotel could not be better situated being right on the seafront at Exmouth with flat walking and easy access to town centre. Comfortable and clean with pleasant staff the choice of food was also good. The excursions were very good with lots to keep everyones interest. The only drawback was that travel was on one of your older coaches and at six foot four legroom was a little cramped. much more room in your newer Setra coaches.Overall excellant value for money.

Hotel is right on the sea front.

The hotel is quite nice and the trips out were fine. The food was the worst I have had in your hotels and I have done many shearings holidays over the last 15yrs are more. Always said how good the food was in hotels I have been before in but not this time. Will not be going back.
