About Prince of Wales Hotel

The Prince of Wales Hotel is set in five acres of land within the Severn Valley, close to the towns of Berkeley, Stroud and Stonehouse as well as being conveniently situated for visiting both Gloucester and Bristol. The character and atmosphere of the 100 year old Princes Bar is a favourite with regular guests. Modern bedrooms offer views over our Gloucestershire hotel's landscaped gardens or across to the hills surrounding the beautiful Severn Valley.

We will be back

Just got back from our 2nd stay at the Prince of Wales. We spent a 5 day Shearings holiday in February. So impressed with the welcoming at the hotel. We went in our own car in May so we could visit Bath and spend more time there. We were not disappointed .the staff are so helpful nothing is too much trouble for them .our young Spanish waiter. Was a pleasure to be served by he had a smile for us all. Could not fault the cleanliness of our room. Downer the TV was rubbish needs replacing in room 5 back soon.

One of the best

Have been to a few of these short break holidays now and would rate this hotel as one of the best. rooms are clean, yes are a little faded but very good for the price you are paying. Have been in worse run four star hotels .food was well cooked and good choice, staff friendly, entertainment was very good on two nights we were there. Will be having another stay at this hotel again.

Work in progress part 2

An enjoyable Shearings 5 day break with interesting excursions, a very competent driver, and a comfortable if slightly faded hotel. The bedrooms could do with an update but are functional and clean. The staff with one exception were friendly and keen to help. The food was very tasty with plenty of choice. Can't comment on the entertainment as we spent our evenings chatting in the lounge bar with friends. While there are some areas which require work, the holiday was exceptional value.

Hidden Little Gem

This lovely hotel lives up to all its great reviews on Trip Adviser...the staff are so warm and welcoming, very efficient in all aspects of tasks, the food tastes fresh, the rooms all have everything you need, and are cleaned to a high standard. By car you can get to Cheltenham, Bath or Bristol within 35 mins not to mention the castle at Berkeley a 10 minute journey away. So much to see and do and the prices are very reasonable for DBB....5 star treatment for the price of 3 stars!

Easter Weekend 29 March 2013

An excellent weekend, coach holiday with Shearings. A very comfortable room, 20, but would agree that the lighting needs to be checked, not very good for reading. Service was excellent and choice at meal times could not be better. Staff very friendly and helpful. Outings very enjoyable, would come again to stay longer...

Excellent Value

We used the hotel as a base to visit friends who live in the area. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff- all lived locally and have a good knowledge of the area. A few more designated parking spaces for those with a blue badge would be helpful. (Only three at present) Food ok and waiters willing and able to make adjustments to suite needs and tastes!! Mattress could have been better- sound and feel of springs not so good for older bones!!! Overall a very good weekend.

Excellent Value

Excellent value for money, staff very friendly and helpful, food very good. Room basic but comfortable, had everything we needed. Bar area and lounge layout excellent except for the poor lighting. Hotel very central for access to Gloucester, Slimbridge, Forest of Dean and parts of Wales, Entertainment in the evenings enjoyable. No hesitation in recommending this hotel to friends.

Work in Progress

My wife and I spent a 7 day break self drive in November 2012. Staff and the food cannot be faulted, the public areas are first class. Ideally situated for visiting the area with good road links. Our only complaint/disappointment was our room (No 2) Needs a lift and the lighting addressed, shower updated to one that can be used and in this day and age a proper digital flat screen television which would reduce the need for trailing wires. And come on duvets please. Why turn off Heating.

A Great Centre for the Cotswolds

My wife and I spent a 5 day self drive break at this hotel in mid July. We thought it represented excellent value for money, with good food from an extensive menu served by helpful and friendly staff. Our room was comfortable and well appointed, and there was plenty of space indoors and out for relaxing. It made a very good centre for exploring the western Cotswolds and WWT Slimbridge. The two nights of entertainment were enjoyable. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. Well done.

Excellent

For a first visit to the area we had a great time. Food room and service was all excellent. The hotel was very near to all local attractions. Slimbridge was a great day out Berkley castle is also well worth a visit. Many local places are very quaint, plenty of river and canal walks nearby. Hotel was clean and tidy our room was great plenty of space lovely bathroom. We will stay again soon.

The Prince of Wales Hotel

All staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The two nights' entertainment was very good. The dining room and public areas were comfortable and had a most pleasant atmosphere. The food was of excellent quality and the menu choice had something to suit every taste. Altogether a most enjoyable 4-day break. Highly recommended!

Does what it says on the tin

My wife and I have just returned from a four day self drive and we had a brilliant time. A nice cosy hotel with very pleasant staff and good food. We were lucky to be allocated a suite even though we didn’t request it. Great entertainment Friday Saturday and Sunday and excellent service in the restaurant from Daniel. All in all a brilliant holiday and one we will remember for years to come. Thanks to everyone at the hotel for making our stay a memorable one. We will be back. Jimmy and Trisha.?

Absolutley Fab

This was our first visit to this area ,and we spent a 5 day self drive at this hotel ,room was outstanding ,food really excellent ,staff very friendly and helpful ,local to a lot of attractions and easy to get to ,would recommend to anyone and would stay again ,and met some lovely people who made our holiday even more enjoyable.
